.UPDATE...Showers and isolated afternoon thunderstorm activity
over PR moved offshore and dissipated just around sunset leaving
partly cloudy to mostly clear skies. By early morning still
however expect sufficient low level moisture convergence and upper
level instability to support early morning clouds and shower
development over the coastal waters, with some moving inland under
the prevailing northeast wind flow. For the rest of Tuesday,
still appears to be a fairly moist and unstable environment to
allow for late morning and afternoon convection across parts of
the central and west to southwest sections of PR with good chance
for periods of locally heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms.
Parts of the USVI may also experience periods of early morning
passing showers, followed by isolated showers and thunderstorms
during the afternoon. Only minor changes made to the inherited
short term package at this time. Kept the isolated thunderstorm
activity mainly over the offshore Atlantic coastal waters as upper
level jet segment is expected to pull north of the region by
early morning placing most of region on the convergent side of
upper trough.

SYNOPSIS...
Tonight moisture will begin to decrease across the
area during the overnight hours but, will return late Tuesday
morning and into the evening. A weak shear line that is expected
to move near Puerto Rico will create showers mainly during the
late morning and evening on Tuesday. The middle of the week a
trough of low pressure will move through Puerto Rico on Thursday
morning. Behind the front northerly winds and much drier air
create tranquil weather area wide with an occasional trade wind
shower possible through Saturday.
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday...
Moisture has decreased across the region compared to this time
yesterday with precipitable water values near 2 inches. At this
time the reported value from the resent TJSJ has a value of 1.33
inches. Some moisture still remains across the portions of
southwest and parts of the interior of Puerto Rico. Steep mid
level lapse rate combined with east northeast wind flow should
spark showers across portions of southwest and the interior of
Puerto Rico later today. Due to the lack of upper level support
showers will have brief duration.
Tuesday, will be a transition day where low level moisture will
decrease across the region early but, late Tuesday night a weak
shear line will move to the northwest of Puerto Rico.
Wednesday, the weak shear line will continue to move through the
region with the main front moving across the islands by midday on
Wednesday. Low level convergence combined with east northeast
winds will create showers across portions of southwest and the
interior of Puerto Rico.
Thursday, front moves through Puerto Rico during the mid-morning
as result northerly winds and drier air will filter out of the
north. Thursday through Sunday looks to be tranquil due to
prevailing fair weather.

An upper level low pressure center and its associated broad mid
to upper level trough will continue to shift eastward across the
central Atlantic Thursday and Friday. As this happens, an upper
level ridge is expected to build very slowly over the region
Friday and for the rest of the forecast period. As a result
moisture is expected to erode rapidly Thursday, limiting the
shower activity across the local islands until at least Sunday.
A strong surface high pressure across the Central Atlantic will
continue to drift southeastward Thursday and Friday. This surface
high will be replaced by another strong surface high pressure that
is expected to move across the southwestern Atlantic Thursday and
Friday. This high will move just north of the region by Saturday,
maintaining a northeast low level wind flow across the local
islands until at least Sunday. Small patches of low level
moisture embedded in the northeast wind flow will reach the region
from time to time inducing periods of isolated showers over the
local islands until Sunday. However, under a building ridge, limited
moisture and northeasterly winds, expect mostly dry and stable
weather conditions with pleasant temperatures most of the period.
Winds are expected to become more eastward by Monday next week. As
a result a slight increase in moisture is expected by that time.
AVIATION....
VFR conds will prevail across most of the TAF sites except in
TJMZ and TJPS where VCSH will develop later in the afternoon. Low
levels winds will continue from the ENE around 10 kts. An increase
cloudiness and shower activity will be possible on Tuesday and
Wednesday as a weak frontal boundary and its associated shearline
move over the local region
MARINE...
Seas 4 to 6 feet through Tuesday evening and increasing early
Wednesday morning to 8 to 10 feet across the Atlantic waters.
Seas will remain hazardous over the Atlantic and local water ways
through Friday. Else-where seas will range from 3 to 5 feet
through Thursday. Winds 10 to 15 kts but could have higher gusts
within isolated showers. High rip currents risk will remain across
all the northern beaches of Puerto Rico through late Tuesday
evening.
