.DISCUSSION...
Surface high pressure shifted well east of the region overnight,
thus allowing winds to become more southerly across the forecast
area today. Through the course of the day, both clouds and rain
chances will gradually increase from west to east across the
forecast area, as a shortwave embedded in westerly flow aloft treks
east towards the forecast area. Despite these increasing rain
chances, most of the forecast area will remain dry through the today
period, as the best rain chances currently don't look to move into
far western portions of the CWA until late afternoon. Otherwise,
look for highs today to be slightly warmer than those observed
Monday, as they range from the upper 60s to middle 70s.
The current forecast is in good shape. I'll only make some subtle
adjustments to account for current trends over the area. No major
changes will be made to the forecast on this update. /19/

.Today and Tonight...Surface and upper ridging will prevail across
most of the area today, but clouds will be on the increase from west
to east this afternoon, out ahead of our next rainmaker. High
temperatures will climb up into the low/mid 70s for most of the
area. A shortwave will move across texas into the ArkLaMiss this
evening, and this will cause a warm front to lift northward across
the area.
Showers and Thunderstorms will move into our Louisiana Parrish's
late this afternoon and evening, and across Southeast Arkansas and
Mississippi during the overnight hours. Expect the thunderstorms
to remain below severe limits tonight as lapse rates will be
marginal ranging from around 5.5 to 5.8 c/km, but a strong storm
or two cannot be ruled out, especially in the delta. Currently it
looks like the heaviest precipitation will once again fall across
our delta areas, where one-half to an inch of rain could fall.
Expect lighter amounts further east and south across the area. A
flash flood watch has already been issued for much of the delta
for this system, and the next one Wednesday night into Thursday
morning. /15/
Wednesday through early next week...
By Wednesday morning, a warm front will be north of the region.
Showers and some thunderstorms should be ongoing just to our north
or possibly affecting my far northern counties. This comes as a
shortwave is moving through the region. This should move out during
the day Wednesday and heights will rise over the ArkLaMiss through
the day. Given our location in the warm sector, highs on Wednesday
should once again be above normal. Readings will be in the lower to
potentially mid 80s. The coolest locations will be in the far north,
along the Highway 82 corridor, with readings in the mid 70s thanks
to proximity to rain and widespread cloud cover. Some warm advection
showers may be possible across the central portions of the forecast
area, but once again most locations should remain dry. Several
disturbances will move along the stalled front to the north,
resulting in continued rain just north of my CWA. Models have
trended a little further north with the greatest accumulation of QPF
through mid-week and have trended our hazard
information(graphics/HWO) this way as well. However, will keep the
flood watch in effect since any additional rain will cause flooding
issues in those locations thanks to saturated grounds. Overall, QPF
amounts of 1-3 inches should occur across the northwest Delta, with
possibly a little higher amounts.
Heading into late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, the
potential for severe weather continues but trends seem to be a
little more marginal with time. An upper trough will swing across
the Mid-Mississippi River Valley, but does not dig south very much
at all. A surface low will develop just ahead of this and move to
the northeast and slowly intensify. It will drag a cold front
through our region early Thursday. While there does remain some
instability, the better amount will be further to the west. However,
given some and along with shear I cannot rule out the potential for
a few strong to severe storms, mainly in the northwest which is in
better position with the forcing. Lapse rates seem a bit poorer this
morning than before. Will continue with the mention but in
conjunction with SPC Day 2 outlook, the slight and marginal risks
will be shrunk.
The cold front will cross the CWA early Thursday and out of the
forecast area by lunch to mid-day. Some light rain will linger
behind the front but should be out of the forecast area by late
afternoon to early evening. Cooler high pressure will slide south at
the surface from the northern Plains. This will lead to a few dry
days at the end of the week into the early portions of the weekend.
Temperatures will actually be a bit more seasonal too with highs in
the 60s and lows in the 40s(even upper 30s a couple of nights).
Upper ridging and the surface high will begin to move east late
Saturday night into early Sunday. As this occurs, southerly flow
will once again become reestablished over the region. As another low
develops across the leeside of the Rockies, moisture and some rain
will return to western portions of the forecast area Sunday evening.
As this low ejects north and east, dragging yet another cold front
toward our region, more rain will affect western portions of the
ArkLaMiss Monday morning. Eventually, as the front drops south, rain
will return to the entire forecast area Monday into Monday night.
There appears to be some indication that the front will stall
through mid-week, allowing several disturbances to move across the
region and bring more rain. Definitely looks to be a wet start to
the week before the system may move out mid to late week. Given how
much rain we have seen over the last week, this will definitely be
something to keep a watch on. /28/

All sites are currently VFR and expect this to continue through
the afternoon hours. Clouds will be on the increase during the
afternoon and evening hours, with areas of MVFR ceilings and
rainshowers possible after 00Z. Thunderstorms chances will
increase across the delta this evening affecting GWO/GLH. The
winds will be out of the East becoming southeast at 7-10kts this
