.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 650 AM EST Thu Jan 5 2018

Lake effect snow showers will continue through today before
diminishing Saturday morning. Expect several inches of additional
snow to fall across areas inland of Lake Michigan. Very cold
temperatures will persist as well. Wind chill temperatures will
remain below zero into Saturday.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 238 AM EST Fri Jan 5 2018

Little change in the short term as arctic airmass remains in
place over the region with high pressure center along
Manitoba/Ontario border. Favorable conditions for lake effect
through the period with unidirectional flow around 330 through
6Kft inversion. High pressure center will move south into the mid-
ms valley by the end of the period. This will back surface flow to
more westerly...enhancing vertical shear in the low levels and
disrupting lake effect bands. Will continue headlines ending in IN
counties at 00Z Saturday and 12Z Saturday for MI counties.
Outside of lake effect...continued cold with single digit highs
today and sub-zero lows tonight. Diminishing winds to around 5kts
tonight will have wind chills approaching low end advisory range
in SW CWA.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)

Surface high moves over the area Saturday afternoon finally
bringing an end to LES. Models continue to indicate split flow
pattern for arrival of next system Sunday/Sunday night as northern
stream moves across southern Canada and southern stream across
southern US. Despite southern stream system...decent southerly
flow develops and expect steady/slowly rising temps Sunday night
bringing precip type into question. For now will just go with rain
or snow but warm layer aloft could bring freezing rain into play
as well. Expect southern stream wave to limit QPF for our area and
given potential for mixed precip not expecting much in the way of
snow accumulation either. Pacific high building in behind this
system and more zonal flow aloft will keep temps at or above
normal remainder of extended period. Snow/rain chances back in the
forecast toward the end of the period as another southern stream
wave approaches the area.

.AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Saturday Afternoon)
Issued at 1224 PM EST Fri Jan 5 2018

Lake effect bands will continue to impact KSBN this afternoon into
this evening before diminishing in coverage/intensity later
tonight into Saturday. Visibilities with this activity will
continue to oscillate between LIFR and IFR, though brief periods
of MVFR/VFR not out of the question in between bands. Snowfall
rates in excess of 1"/hr will be possible at times.

Similar to yesterday, some diurnal enhancement to the lake plume
will likely allow snow showers to reach inland to near KFWA mid
afternoon into this evening. Brief MVFR/IFR restrictions and light
accums will be possible here during this time.

Snow accumulations are possible Sunday night into Monday morning which
may result in travel issues early next week.
