* WHAT...Significant icing. Mixed precipitation expected.
  Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice
  accumulations of a light glaze. Total snow accumulations of up
  to one inch and ice accumulations of a quarter to one third of
  an inch. 

* WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

* WHEN...For the Ice Storm Warning, until noon EST today. For 
  the Winter Weather Advisory, until 4 PM EST this afternoon.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions to
  continue into this afternoon.

An Ice Storm Warning means significant amounts of ice
accumulation will make travel dangerous or impossible. Travel is
strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra
flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency. Snapped power lines and falling tree branches are also
possible. 

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery
roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 422 AM EST Thu Nov 15 2018

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain will spread across the area
this morning. The precipitation will change to snow this
afternoon before ending early tonight. The wintry mix with
temperatures below freezing is expected to cause impacts in travel
this morning. Conditions should improve this afternoon as
temperatures rise to freezing. For Friday through the middle of
next week, cool weather will persist with a light wintry mix
possible this weekend.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 418 AM EST Thu Nov 15 2018

The upper low was near St Louis with a well defined deformation
zone and was moving northeast across the Midwest and into the
Great Lakes region. Overnight temperatures over northern Indiana had
warmed a little, but were still between 28F and 30F by 4 am EST.
Have continued to increase precipitation amounts as a well
developed baroclinic leaf had formed with a very impressive
satellite signature. These higher amounts were supported by
surface observations and most of the WPC high res runs. Aircraft
observations indicated a warm layer from about 750 mb to 850 mb
with max temperatures around or just above 0C that were warmest
from Portland to Lima. Farther north and northwest, the entire
thermal profile was below freezing. Concern for heavier icing from
Marion to Portland to Lima given the warm layer just warm enough
to allow for freezing rain with sleet. At this time, am
considering an upgrade to an ice storm warning for these areas.
Otherwise, have increased snow amounts most areas. Have issued a
winter weather advisory for nearly all of northern Indiana and
northwest Ohio until noon EST given the wintry mix with
temperatures below freezing. Road conditions should improve as
temperatures rise to near or slightly above freezing this
afternoon.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)
Issued at 418 AM EST Thu Nov 15 2018

Except for a light wintry mix this weekend, tranquil weather will
follow for several days from Friday into the middle of next week
as the Upper Great Lakes region remains on the back side of an
upper trof that was over eastern North America. Some disturbances
could bring a wintry mix this weekend, although precipitation
amounts are expected to be light.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Thursday Night)
Issued at 1203 AM EST Thu Nov 15 2018

VFR to start will rapidly deteriorate across the terminals 10-12Z
coincident with arrival of strong/deep ascent within downstream warm
advection push ahead of deep cyclone over srn IL. Brief mix of sleet
likely invof KFWA however rapidly deepening ascent plume will
overwhelm nwwd wrapping warm nose followed by a svrl hour period of
mod snow and IFR. This will diminish with nwd/wwd extent toward KSBN
owing to rapid newd progression of stout mid level dry slot but even
here expect a period of IFR in snow.

Slow improvement thereafter this aftn as inverted sfc trough is slow
to get east. Nevertheless IFR range bound cigs expected to persist
overnight.
