Warning for the following rivers and streams in central Indiana...

  Fall Creek...Wildcat Creek...Mill Creek...Sugar Creek near
  Edinburgh...Big Blue River...White River in the Muncie and
  Anderson areas.
  

.Significant to near major flooding developed quickly in central 
Indiana.  Flood crests in central will be higher than those of late
February and early March.  Heavy rains of 2 to 5 inches that fell on
Tuesday in central Indiana caused the flooding.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  then begin falling. The river will fall below flood stage this

* At 9.0 feet...Flooding in progress along Wildcat Creek in eastern 
  Howard County.  Water possibly two feet deep on CR 174 S just west 
  of Jerome Bridge on CR 1030 E.  Canoe area at SR 213 and nearby 
  park flooded.

.Significant to near major flooding developed quickly in central 
Indiana following heavy rains of 2 to 5 inches on Tuesday.  High
water for central Indiana will have little affect on flood crests in
southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois but will cause significant
flooding to persist through April 11.  Flooding in much of the area
will be higher than levels experienced in late February and early
March.

Early Wednesday afternoon...most rivers and large streams continued
to rise.  The White and East Fork White Rivers and large streams in
central Indiana will crest by Friday.  Rivers in southern Indiana
were be near crest by the weekend and will remain near crest levels
through much of next week.

Flooding closed numerous river roads and affected some residential
areas.

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river

  Water is on or very close to Lowell Road and the CR 250 W 
  intersection east of the bridge.  Water is very close or possibly 
  in several residences and seasonal homes along CR 330W and CR 325W.
  Water is deeper on CR 330W just south of Ohio Ridge Rd and CR 500N 
  west of CR 250W.

* Forecast...The river will rise to near 13.4 feet by Sunday evening 
  then begin falling. The river will fall below flood stage Friday 
  April 13.
* At 13.2 feet...During the July 2015 summer flood, water began to 
  overflow the road to the new Williams Bridge.  SR 450 closes in 
  several locations. Most local roads in the flood plain are 
  impassable at this level.  Huron-Williams Road flooded south of 
  Port Williams Road.  The summer flood crest of 13.2 feet came 3 
  weeks later in the summer season than the June 28, 1960 crest of 
  15.1 feet and is believed to be the latest for the summer season 
  since at least the late 1940s.

.Significant to near major flooding developed quickly in central 
Indiana following heavy rains of 2 to 5 inches on Tuesday.  High
water from central Indiana will have little affect on flood crests in
southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois but will cause significant
flooding to persist through April 11.  Flooding in much of the area
will be higher than levels experienced in late February and early
March.

Early Wednesday afternoon...most rivers and large streams continued
to rise.  The White and East Fork White Rivers and large streams in
central Indiana will crest by Friday.  Rivers in southern Indiana
were be near crest by the weekend and will remain near crest levels
through much of next week.

Flooding closed numerous river roads and affected some residential
areas. 


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  weeks later in the summer season than the June 28, 1960 crest of 
  15.1 feet and is believed to be the latest for the summer season

  Buck Creek...Wildcat Creek...


.Flooding near Jerome, Indiana on Wildcat Creek, and at Acton,
Indiana on Buck Creek, has ended. Creek levels are expected to
continue falling through at least Thursday. Other than a negligible
amount of rainfall late Thursday and Thursday night, the next
precipitation of substance will be in the area Friday
night...heaviest in southern Indiana.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Be alert to flood debris on previously flooded roads. Keep children 
away from flooded areas. Recreational and agricultural interests 
should remain alert to changing river conditions.

Issued at 657 AM EDT Wed Apr 4 2018

High pressure will build into the area for today and tonight. A weak
disturbance will move through the Great Lakes on Thursday and
Thursday night. Another disturbance is expected to move through the
Ohio and Tennessee Valley towards the end of the week. Another low
pressure system may affect the area early next week.

.NEAR TERM /Rest of Today/...
Issued at 1010 AM EDT Wed Apr 4 2018

Snow showers continue to impact the northeast half of the forecast
area as of mid morning with the trailing upper trough and cold
pool pinwheeling through the lower Great Lakes. 14Z temps were
generally in the 30s and combined with gusty westerly winds...it
is making for an absolutely miserable early April morning.

The overall forecast is in decent shape. Made a few adjustments
for the rest of the day...including extending the threat for snow
showers into the afternoon hours over northeast counties as the
upper trough axis shifts east of the area. The combination of
subtle instability and shallow but steep lapse rates will support
occasional bursts of snow showers for the next few hours. While it
may come down hard for brief periods...not expecting any
accumulation issues with surface and road temps above freezing.
More than anything...visibilities will be briefly reduced and the
snow falling will serve as a reminder that winter has no plans to
loosen its grip on the region.

Will begin to see some clearing from the southwest this afternoon
and peaks of sun with more substantial clearing this evening.
Nudged high temps down a few degrees as many areas do not make it
out of the 30s. Winds will remain gusty all day with the mixing
level around 4kft at its peak. Should see a gradual diminishment
in the intensity of the gusts this afternoon.

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Friday night/...
Issued at 657 AM EDT Wed Apr 4 2018

Model data suggest broad upper troughing will exist over the eastern
parts of the country during this period.

A weak, low amplitude short wave trough, is progged to move through
the Great Lakes region Thursday and Thursday night. Not a lot of
deep moisture or lift with this feature. Will go with some chance
PoPs for light rain on Thursday and Thursday night to cover this
feature.

Appears an overrunning situation may develop by Friday afternoon and
night as an elevated front sets up over far southern Indiana. Will
bring in PoPs for light rain by Friday afternoon, and mixed
precipitation Friday night as thicknesses lower some and boundary
layer cools. Still appears there could be some light snow
accumulations over parts of the area Friday night.

Progged low level thicknesses suggest the GFS MOS highs on Thursday
and the lows Thursday night may be a little on the cool side. Will
bump up the guidance some in those periods. Remainder of
the periods look OK for now.

.LONG TERM /Saturday through Wednesday/...

Northwest to westerly mid/upper level flow will be over the Ohio
Valley region at the start of the period on Saturday keeping that
cold regime over the Great Lakes and Upper Ohio Valley, including
central Indiana. By Sunday evening, a shortwave trough will move
from the northern Plains eastward over the region essentially
reinforcing the cold air Monday, and another trough sneaks in
right behind it for Tuesday.

Saturday will start off with surface high pressure extending east
from MO into the Ohio Valley for a nice, but cool day with
temperatures in the upper 30s/low 40s across the area. The next
storm system coming out of the west Sunday will spread
precipitation mostly in the form of rain Sunday evening then
becoming/changing over to light snow overnight into Monday
morning. There could be some light snow around Monday, before the
second trough sneaks in and brings a mixture of rain/snow
possible going into Tuesday.

Temperatures are still going to be mostly 40s during the day and
upper 20s/low 30s coming out of the weekend. It is not until
Wednesday that there is a sign of upper 40s, maybe low 50s showing
up. How this all comes about carries a low confidence right now in
timing and type of precipitation. But, looks like we remain below
normal for temperatures through period.

.AVIATION /Discussion for 041500Z TAF Update/...
Issued at 1010 AM EDT Wed Apr 4 2018

Made minor adjustments based on current obs. Any brief impacts
from snow showers or flurries will be confined to visibility
restrictions at KIND and KLAF over the next couple hours. Winds
will remain gusty through much of the rest of the day.

12Z discussion follows.

Strong northwest winds continue through much of the area this
morning on the back side of a low pressure system in Ontario. Wind
gusts of to/around 35 kt are being reported. MVFR ceilings are
also the rule this morning. These conditions are expected to
continue into early-mid afternoon along with some clearing to VFR
ceilings. High pressure moves in tonight into tomorrow.

Thus, main impacts are gusty winds through into this afternoon and
MVFR ceilings.
