Issued at 328 AM EDT Thu Sep 6 2018 A cold front extends through central IN this morning from southeast of FWA southwest through IND and HUF. This frontal boundary is expected to end up lying right across the central part of the state, mainly along the proverbial I-70 corridor. The remnants of T.S. Gordon, now a depression/low over southeast AR, will send moisture northward today for periods of showers and thunderstorms. && .NEAR TERM /Today/... Issued at 1055 AM EDT Thu Sep 6 2018 Going forecast seems to be on track this morning. Increased cloud cover across the southern half of the forecast area to account for current satellite trends. The previous forecast follows... Issued at 328 AM EDT Thu Sep 6 2018 With the frontal boundary becoming quasistationary across central Indiana today, moisture plume that was over the Plains will spread along the boundary from MO eastward into IN. Water vapor satellite imagery shows a long plume of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico north-northeast along the Appalachian chain. Expect this moisture to gradually be drawn towards IN as well low pressure over AR (remnants of T.S. Gordon) slowly moves northward. Good news is that it should be 10 degrees cooler ending the 90-degree string of the last few days. As the front moves into the area, there should be scattered showers and thunderstorms develop by this afternoon into early tonight. && .SHORT TERM /Tonight through Saturday night/... Issued at 328 AM EDT Thu Sep 6 2018 Model blend indicates what has been anticipated the last few days that the remnants of T.S. Gordon will move from AR into MO and become embedded along the frontal boundary from east central MO eastward through central IN. A leading shortwave trough will move through the area Friday, so raised PoPs to likely category with rain and embedded thunderstorms on Friday. Then, the main low, that of the remnants of T.S. Gordon. will move eastward from central IL through Indiana on Saturday bring prolonged rain, moderate-heavy at times, to the region. Model Blend and WPC forecasts are looking for a 2" to locally 4" possibility for rainfall totals by Sunday morning across much of central IN. Confidence is high right now on Saturday rainfall and some localized flooding is expected from Friday and Saturday rains. && .LONG TERM /Sunday Night through Thursday/... Issued at 257 PM EDT Thu Sep 6 2018 A much quieter stretch of weather is expected for much of the extended period as high pressure returns in the wake of the remnants of Gordon. Will need to maintain low chances for rain Sunday night into Monday focused primarily over eastern portions of the forecast area as what is left of Gordon departs off to the northeast. A large high pressure ridge will build into the region as the week progresses...largely locked in place by what ends up becoming of the future track of Florence. Increasing model consensus on a storm that will track closer to the East Coast and New England by late week. Other than a small threat for rain and storms Wednesday as a plume of moisture tracks up the western side of the Appalachians... expect mainly dry weather after Monday with a slow warming trend. Highs in the low to mid 70s on Monday under a thick cloud deck should be able to recover to seasonable levels in the lower 80s by midweek. && .AVIATION /Discussion for 061800Z TAF Issuance/... Issued at 130 PM EDT Thu Sep 6 2018 Mainly VFR conditions expected through much of tonight with deteriorating conditions developing in showers towards daybreak Friday. A frontal boundary continues to drift into the region from the north as increasing levels of moisture are drawn north from the remnants of Gordon. This is already resulting in scattered convection developing early this afternoon and expect further development through the rest of the afternoon. Will carry VCTS at all terminals into the early evening with any restrictions being confined to storms that directly impact a terminal. Threats for storms should diminish after sunset but rain chances will continue as progressively deeper moisture and lift expands into the Ohio Valley from the southwest.
