...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1030 AM CDT
FOR NORTHEASTERN VERMILION COUNTY...

At 1023 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Talbot, moving
east at 40 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Trained weather spotters.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Hoopeston and Rossville. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
ISSUED AT 238 AM CDT Sat Jul 14 2018

Heat and convective chances are the main concerns for this part of
the forecast. Will be issuing a Heat Advisory for the southern 2/3
of the forecast area for this afternoon, with heat index values
likely to reach around 105 or so. Northern CWA is most likely to
be impacted by thicker cloud cover, so they will be left out,
though heat index values around 100 are plausible.

With the convection, the high-res models have quite a spread in
the amount of storms during the morning. However, most agree that
afternoon will be more favored, as the upper trough currently
over eastern Nebraska makes its way east. Ample CAPE's over 3,000
J/kg should be in place by afternoon. Not a significant amount of
shear available, but the GFS does suggest 0-6km shear of 20-30
knots. Latest SPC Day1 outlook has a marginal risk of severe
weather north of I-70 with damaging winds the primary concern. An
additional round of convection is expected overnight, as the upper
wave finally arrives.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday)
ISSUED AT 238 AM CDT Sat Jul 14 2018

The upper wave will not be in much of a hurry to leave, but should
finally get booted out Sunday night as the strong upper low over
the Canadian prairies moves southeast. With time, the resulting
trough will dig over the northern Great Lakes, and give us some
relief from the heat and humidity beginning on Tuesday.

With the main cold front not expected to fully pass through the
area until Monday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will
continue to be a concern into early next week. While severe
weather is not expected, precipitable water values over 2 inches
will allow for heavier rains with the stronger storms. A couple
days of dry weather will follow for midweek.

In the longer range, high pressure aloft will build over the
Rockies. Both the GFS and European models show rain chances
expanding with a trough sliding down the ridge, though the GFS
suggests a dry passage in our area. Will lean more toward the
European solution, though not as robust as its output, and include
PoP's Thursday and Thursday night across mainly the western half
of the area.

.AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Sunday morning)

Predominantly VFR conditions expected across the central Illinois
terminals through the 12Z TAF valid time. However, there will be
isolated to scattered thunderstorms for much of the period,
especially starting this afternoon, and this could result in brief
MVFR or lower conditions. Winds will be light away from
thunderstorms, generally from a southerly direction.

At 902 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a line of strong
thunderstorm near Saybrook, or 8 miles west of Gibson City, moving
east at 40 mph.

Half inch hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with
these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Le Roy, Lexington, Colfax, Saybrook, Cooksville, Pleasant Hill,
Bellflower, Arrowsmith, Cropsey, Ellsworth, Anchor, Holder and
Moraine View State Park.

This includes the following highways...
 Interstate 55 between mile markers 176 and 182.
 Interstate 74 between mile markers 148 and 154.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring, and may lead to localized
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
