moving east at 55 mph.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front moving across the area this afternoon and evening
will trigger a round of showers and thunderstorms, before
stalling in eastern Kentucky tonight. This front will be the
focus for additional showers and thunderstorms into the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Overall thinking for forecast today has remained largely
unchanged this morning. Surface low pressure continues to deepen
this morning over Michigan with low level shear values
increasing. Forecast soundings for this afternoon show mid-
level dry air with surface delta theta-e values approaching -35.
These values are fairly impressive and further supported with
DCAPE above 1000 J/KG at times. Given the above can't rule out a
few storms along the front producing damaging wind gusts. Also
through the afternoon low level flow remains around 40 kts and
with good mixing, wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be possible
(supported by GFS, NAM, HRRR momentum transfer techniques). Have
gone ahead and issued an SPS across our northern zones to
account for this.

Prev Discussion->
Latest runs of the RAP and HRRR continue to back off the chances
of morning convection. The models are now focusing on the
increasing convergence and instability ahead of the approaching
cold front. Highest PoP are expected this afternoon ahead of
fropa.

Dewpoints this afternoon in the lower 60s will contribute to
weak CAPE on the order of 500-1000 J/kg. H8 winds are forecast
to be 35 to 40 kts. This combination will allow some
thunderstorms this afternoon to approach or reach severe
limits, but in general don't expect a widespread severe event.

Highs today will range from the mid 70s in the extreme northwest
counties to around 80 in the southeast.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Cold front will be near the Ohio River night, and will continue
to sag farther into Kentucky overnight. Scattered thunderstorms
will be possible overnight in nrn Ky into south central Ohio.
Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies elsewhere. Temperatures
will drop down onto the lower 50s in west central Ohio warming
to the upper 50s in nrn KY.

On Saturday, a H5 shortwave will move out the Mississippi Valley
into the Tennessee Valley. As this occurs the frontal boundary
will buckle and showers and thunderstorms will drift a little
to the north, affecting nrn Ky and extreme srn Ohio.

Saturday night the shortwave continues east into the
Appalachians. Convection will pivot north and east, affecting
areas mainly south of I-71. Highs on Saturday will be in the mid
to upper 70s.

Northwest flow aloft will on develop on Sunday. A secondary
cold front will drop south in the flow. Showers and
thunderstorms will develop late Sunday afternoon and will affect
the region Sunday afternoon. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid
and upper 70s again.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Surface high pressure to build across the Great Lakes early
next week. This large high will provide dry weather into the
middle of next week. Temperatures look to be close to normal
Monday with highs from the middle 60s north to the lower 70s
south. Temperatures will moderate as the surface high shifts
east with highs Tuesday in the lower/middle 70s and in the
mid/upper 70s Wednesday.

Moisture to return ahead of the next shortwave and associated surface
low. Model solution timing differences exist with the ECMWF slower
and more amplified than the GFS. Have used a blended approach with
chance pops in the west late Wednesday and then across the FA
Thursday.

.AVIATION /18Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Surface cold front is currently moving through Indiana and far
northwestern Ohio with showers and thunderstorms firing ahead
and along the front. The showers and thunderstorms ahead of the
front are actually along a prefrontal trough and look to be
taking over compared to the storms along the front. The main
concern with these storms will be small hail and some gusty
winds. In any storms temporary reductions in visibilities will
be possible.

As the prefrontal trough moves through winds will veer from the
west with gusts of 35 kts possible (higher probability of gusty
winds towards KDAY, KCMH, and KLCK). The front will then cross
the area later this afternoon into early evening with winds
veering from the northwest. As we loose day time heating winds
will diminish and weak surface high pressure will temporarily
build in.

OUTLOOK...Thunderstorms possible Sunday afternoon.

...GUSTY WINDS EXPECTED THROUGH EARLY EVENING...

An approaching cold front will bring increasing southwest winds
today. The front will then move through the area late this
afternoon through early evening, with winds shifting from the
northwest. Southwest winds will gust up to 40 mph ahead of this
front today.

Also, some of the storms that develop may produce strong to
damaging winds with gusts up to 50 mph. Pea size hail is also
possible.
