The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect until 9 PM EDT this evening.

* Location...Downtown Wilmington and portions of River Road.

* Coastal Flooding...Minor coastal flooding is expected with high 
  tide this evening on both sides of the river at downtown 
  Wilmington and along portions of River Road.

* Timing...Minor flood threshold of 5.5 feet will be reached around 8
  PM with a peak tide of about 5.8 feet near 830 PM. The river will
  fall below minor flood threshold by 9 PM.

* Impacts...Water 3 to 5 inches deep can be expected along USS North
  Carolina Road and Battleship Road. More than a block of Water
  Street at Front Street will experience water up to 3 inches deep.

Hazards Statement, which is in effect from 6 AM EDT Sunday through
Sunday evening.

Strong southerly winds will develop Sunday. This combined with
increasing southerly waves will create a moderate to strong south to
north longshore current for the east facing beaches of Pender, New 
Hanover, Horry and Georgetown counties.

In addition, jellyfish have been reported at all beaches in our 
area. The jellyfish are small and mostly a nuisance, stinging the feet
of beachgoers.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents,
piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. Often, if the longshore
current is strong enough, it will sweep swimmers off their feet,
making it difficult to return to shore.

If stung by a jellyfish, rinse the affected area with vinegar and 
soak in hot water.

Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with the
lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards.

Area Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
The Bermuda High will anchor offshore into early next week. An
upper low over the Ohio Valley will extend into the Carolinas,
bringing increased shower and thunderstorms through Monday,
before lifting northeast mid week. Drier and warmer air will
follow Tuesday through Thursday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 7 PM Saturday...Diurnal cooling overall, beginning to
lower intensity of convection about the region. CPC reporting a
TSTM gusts of 38 KT earlier this evening, and KLBT 35 KT. By
3z/11 pm think convection will be fully diminished, then ocean
activity may approach into pre-dawn and daybreak of Sunday.
Temperatures will fall into the upper 70s by midnight. The main
forecast adjustments were scaling back both sky cover and amount
of convection overnight.

As of 300 PM Saturday...Another hot and more humid day today with
temps reaching the lower 90s and dewpoint temps in the mid 70s to
produce heat index values up above 100 for a few hours this
afternoon. Gusty S-SW winds will continue along the coast through
this evening.

A trough remains inland and Atlantic high pressure off shore
with a deep SW flow over our area. Modest cu developed over most
of the area with a clustering along sea breeze and inland, west
of I-95. Convection was limited mainly over inland trough and
sea breeze. HRRR and NAM show mainly localized convection
developing along sea breeze boundary this afternoon and then
some other activity W-NW as mid to upper trough moves east later
in the day. Some decent low level convergence should occur over
central Carolinas late this afternoon, especially over NC as
embedded shortwave energy and jet dynamics come into play to
enhance convection. As the mid to upper trough digs deeper
and shifts east through late tonight, the potential for
additional convection will occur. The best moisture and lift
will be this afternoon as pcp water values reach up around 2
inches with ML CAPE just over 2k. Although the diurnal heating
will cutoff this evening, the energy aloft should provide enough
lift to tap into the elevated instability to drive some
convection into the late evening and overnight hours. Also
expect some passing mid to high clouds from convective debris
overnight. The steering flow will strengthen out of the SW later
so expect storms to track off to the NE, but shift of trough to
the east will give a push eastward. This may also help to
produce some convection along coast into the early morning
hours. Temps tonight will drop into the mid 70s most places.
With the increased moisture, especially places that get showers,
expect potential for some patchy fog near daybreak.

The mid to upper low will close off over the Ohio Valley on
Sunday as it shifts eastward. This will maintain a deep moist
increasing SW flow. Pcp water increases over 2 inches in a
concentrated area of coastal Carolinas with ML CAPE near 2k and
Moisture rich air with dewpoints in the mid 70s, should provide
a day of enhanced convective activity with showers and
thunderstorms likely over the area. Models show some drier air
pushing in from the west as trough moves east with storms
focused closer to the coast as the steering flow increases out of
the W-SW and should help to enhance storms especially along the sea
breeze boundary ahead the trough. Typical warm and humid weather
will continue with temps up around 90.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
As of 300 PM Saturday...An upper-level cut-off low will be centered
over the Ohio and Pennsylvania border at the beginning of Sunday
night and by the end of Monday night it will have only drifted to
central Pennsylvania.

At the surface a stationary front will located almost coincident to
interstate 95 through North Carolina and northern South Carolina.
This boundary will be the focus of a good chance of convection
through the period. Shortwave energy will be present with excellent
deep moisture with a 2" ribbon of precipitable water over the
eastern 2/3 of the forecast area and by Monday night drier air from
the west is shifting across the region and chance of convection over
night will be from a slight chance in the far west to a around a 50%
at the coast. The boundary layer CAPE values will run 2000 to 3000
J/kg from west to east on Monday and with the flow heavy rain is
possible during most of the short term period.

Lows will be in the lower 70s inland to middle 70s at the beaches.
Highs will be in the upper 80s to around 90 with the increased cloud
and storm coverage.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 300 PM Saturday...Closed 500 mb low centered over the
northern Mid- Atlantic will open up and lift northeast, while
mid and upper- ridging builds across the eastern Carolinas
through Wednesday night. This ridge will shift off the coast by
the end of the week as another 500 mb trough swings across the
Great Lakes. While Bermuda high pressure will remain in place
and sustain southwesterly flow at the surface through the
period, time-height cross sections indicate that a significant
amount of dry air from 400-700 mb will be in place Tuesday
through Friday. This drying is also reflected in precipitable
water values, which drop below 1.5" Tuesday and Wednesday before
trending back up. Although the drier air and mid- level ridging
will keep convection at a minimum Tuesday-Thursday, it will
also boost max temps into the low to mid 90s, then falling
heights and increased cloud cover late week will bring temps
back toward climatology by Saturday.

.AVIATION /23Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 00Z...Generally VFR this evening all terminals with patchy
dense fog inland terminals overnight. Per recent radar trends
and latest Hi-Res models, expect precipitation coverage to
gradually diminish by midnight. A potential does exists at the
coastal terminals for showers overnight, but confidence is very
low. Winds will be light southwest at the coastal terminals
tonight, and near calm at KFLO/KLBT. This could allow for light
fog to develop after 08z at KFLO/KLBT. Since these terminals
received rain today, the potential does exists for periods of
dense fog, but confidence of occurrence and timing is low.

VFR all terminals shortly after sunrise. By 15Z convection erupts
again along and just inland of the coastal terminals. Thunderstorms
will be possible by 16-17Z as the convective temperature is reached.
Will wait for later TAFs to better pinpoint timing

Extended Outlook...Showers/tstms into Monday with tempo MVFR/
IFR. Isolated convection Tuesday through Thursday.

.MARINE...
NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 7 PM Saturday...Bulk of wave energy tied to winds, with
seas from the South, 1.5-2.5 ft every 4-5 seconds tonight, and
around 6 seconds Sunday. TSTMS may approach Cape Fear early
Sunday morning.

As of 300 PM Saturday...Gusty southerly winds through this
evening will veer slightly and increase slightly into Sunday as
trough shifts eastward and Atlantic high remains to the east.
The persistent southerly push will drive seas from 2 to 3 ft
through tonight up to 2 to 4 ft with some 5 fters in the outer
waters by the end of this period, late Sunday aftn.

SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
As of 300 PM Saturday...a stationary front will located over the
coastal plains of the Carolinas through the period. This front will
cause a southwest flow of 15 knots across the waters through much of
the period with a slight decrease in winds speed Monday night.

With the continued duration and fetch of the wind, the seas will
remain in the 3 to 4 feet range through the period.

LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 300 PM Saturday...Bermuda high pressure offshore, along
with a quasi- stationary surface trough across the central
Carolinas will maintain a southwesterly flow across the waters
Tuesday through Thursday. The presence of the trough will
enhance the gradient at times, which will yield speeds up to 15
knots, with occasional gusts to 20 knots. As a mid-level trough
moves off the coast Tuesday and Tuesday night, scattered showers
and thunderstorms will be possible. Ridging aloft Wednesday and
Thursday should keep convection at a minimum.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 1000 AM Saturday...The latest forecast has the tide gage
located on the lower Cape Fear River at downtown Wilmington
peaking over 5.8 ft MLLW at high tide, just before 11 pm EDT
tonight. Shallow flooding commences at the 5.5 ft MLLW height
threshold and occurs within a window surrounding high tide,
basically tonight between 930 pm EDT to 1230 am EDT.

With the new moon this morning and high astronomical tides
within the few days surrounding it, minor coastal flooding will
continue to be possible over the next couple of days during the
time of the late evening high tides.

...Strong thunderstorms developing in Columbus county...

At 400 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a group of strong
thunderstorms from near Clarendon to 5 miles north of Lake Waccamaw.
These storms are moving northeast at 15 mph.

These storms will move into southeastern Bladen and northwestern
Pender counties within the hour. The strongest storms have the
capability of producing winds in excess of 40 mph, frequent
lightning, and very heavy rain.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

...Strong thunderstorms developing in Dillon and Robeson
Counties...

At 515 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a line of strong
thunderstorms from near Little Rock, SC to just south of St. Pauls,
NC. These storms were moving northeast at 15 mph.

The strongest storms have the capability of producing winds in
excess of 40 mph, frequent lightning, and very heavy rain. This line
of storms will move into northwest Bladen county around 6 PM.

Locations impacted include...
Lumberton, Dillon, Pembroke, Fairmont, St. Pauls, Rowland, Hamer,
Bladen Community College, Ammon, South Of The Border, Hestertown,
Buie, Robeson Community College, White Oak, Minturn, Elrod, Smiths,
Howellsville, Raemon and Tolarsville.

...Strong thunderstorms moving through extreme northeast Robeson and
northwest Bladen counties.

At 610 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms between Howellsville to just north of White Oak.
These storms are moving northeast at 15 mph.

A strong storm  produced a gust of 40 mph at the Lumberton Airport
in the past hour. These storms still have the capability of
producing winds in excess of 40 mph, frequent lightning, and very
heavy rain.

Locations impacted include...
St. Pauls, Smiths, Howellsville, Bladen Community College,
Tolarsville, Duart, Ammon, Tobermory, Ruskin, White Oak, Jerome,
Dublin and Tar Heel.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

...Strong thunderstorms to move through portions of southern Bladen,
Columbus, and northwestern Horry counties...

At 655 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Elizabethtown to near Galivants Ferry.
Movement of the thunderstorms was to the northeast at 15 mph.

Storms today have had a history of producing wind gust in the 40 to
45 mph range. These storms also have frequent lightning, and are
producing very heavy rain.

Locations impacted include...
Whiteville, Elizabethtown, Rowan, Tabor City, Loris, Chadbourn,
Bladenboro, Bethel, Lake Waccamaw, Fair Bluff, Sandyfield, Boardman,
Hallsboro, Nakina, Butters, Council, Southeastern Community College,
Williams, and Carvers.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Thunderstorms can pose a variety of threats including gusty winds,
small hail, cloud to ground lightning, and localized flooding. It is
recommended that you remain indoors until the storms pass.
