  Wilson and Pennington roads. Flooding occurs along Pennington Road 
  from Nickerson Blvd to 50th Avenue.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Wed night)

Water vapor imagery shows some shortwave energy lifting very
slowly over northeast NM with another impulse tracking northwest
over southern/eastern OK. At the surface, broad area of southeast
flow remains over the Plains with a cold front moving through MT.

Current thinking is that we should see an increase in showers and
storms this morning just ahead of the weak impulse approaching
from the southeast. With PWs over 2", any of the more intense
showers and storms will produce very high rainfall rates. Mid
level flow is expected to veer as the afternoon hours approach
which will shift the better mid level moisture transport over
eastern KS. So, should again see a lull in activity this
afternoon. Therefore will extend the flash flood watch out until
18z to account for the morning convection and heavy rain
potential.

Focus for showers and storms tonight then turns to a cold front
that is expected to stretch from eastern Nebraska into west-
central KS by 12z Wed. While precip chances will remain in place
tonight through Wed, the focus for heavier rain will be tied to
the front, which for tonight should be north of the forecast area.
Heavy rain chances become more difficult on Wed as the front
becomes less defined as it move into our forecast area, so tough
to pin down where and if there will be concentrated area of heavy
rain Wed into Wed night. For now will continue with modest pops
but not hit the qpf too hard yet for tonight through Wed night.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday through Monday)

Two features will impact our area through this time period. One
will be a weak impulse that is currently spinning over the desert
southwest and will slowly lift northeast, approaching the high
Plains by Thu. What is left of tropical storm Gordon is expected
to lift toward the Arklatex region by Thu evening and into the
Ozark region by Fri. These two feature will keep precip chances in
for Thu into Fri night with the best chance for some heavier rain
over southeast KS which will have a better chance of being
influenced by Gordon. Models remain consistent in starting to push
precip out of the area Sat with most of the area dry by Sat
evening.

.AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Wednesday afternoon)

As one subtle shortwave trough lifts north of the area another
shortwave trough lifting northward across the Southern High
Plains will bring increasing chances for showers later this
afternoon to much of South Central Kansas as activity across
western Oklahoma continues to expand in coverage. This activity
wasn't being handled well by the short-range models. Widespread
MVFR with pockets of IFR are anticipated under the heavier
showers. A moist tropical airmass remains in place supporting very
heavy rain, reduced visibilities and low ceilings under the
tropical downpours. An approaching cold front may impact portions
of central KS around sunrise on Wed shifting winds to the
northwest at KRSL & KGBD with a period of low ceilings also
possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for all of Central and South-
Central Kansas until 1 PM CDT Wednesday. Numerous showers and
embedded thunderstorms are likely from Wednesday through Friday
night. More heavy rains are possible and would cause flooding in
some areas.

With the continued threat of flooding, forecasts should be monitored
closely!
