.SYNOPSIS...
Weak high pressure will move east of the region overnight. Low
pressure will move up the east coast on Wednesday and will race
northeast into the maritimes Wednesday night. High pressure will
build south of the area on Thursday. A warm front with areas of
low pressure moving along it will result in unsettled weather
late Friday into much of the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
High pressure builds across the region tonight with clearing skies
this evening and then crests over northern Maine by morning. By
later tonight the overunning WAA mid/high level moisture will
begin to spread east into the area well ahead of the approaching
system from the southern plains. Temps will bottom out in the
single numbers and teens except lower 20s along the coast. By
morning a very dry air mass should be in place in the lower to
levels setting the stage for Wed.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for all areas WED into
Wed night except along the NH seacoast where a winter weather
advisory will be issued. Most accumulations will range from 8-12
inches inland and mountain areas while along the coast 6-10
inches is expected. Over the NH seacoast area a narrow band of
only 2-4 inches is expected before mixing with sleet and rain
with some freezing rain also possible.

The setup for Wednesday - A strong WAA pattern to the south
spreads rapidly north and east ahead of a developing wave that
moves northeast from the southern plains. Snow will overspread
NH by mid morning and by noon over Maine. The snow will be heavy
at times in the afternoon and evening.  From its origin the
system will have tapped some gulf moisture. QPF amounts of
.5-1.0 inches seem reasonable from the RFCQPF forecast grids and
accepted. With cold high pres centered to our north supplying
cold air damming and the preferred colder model track of the
Euro/GFS keeping the low off the coast, all inland and mountain
areas should remain all snow. Although the least QPF is expected
in the mountains and foothills, higher snowfall ratios will
allow them to also fall into the total snowfall range of 8-12
inches. No wind is expected with this system so no blowing or
drifting snow is expected.

The system will move rapidly into the maritimes by Wed night so
by midnight all areas should see the snow and any mixed
precipitation come to an end.

Colder air returns on northwest winds in its wake toward
Thursday morning.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Global Models are in very good agreement with the synoptic
pattern behind the departing winter storm. A northwest flow of
colder air develops Thursday and Thursday Night. Gusty NWS winds
will result in low wind chill values for a time ... especially
over the Mountains. Also would expect upslope snow shower
activity in this type of pattern. High pressure will build south
of the region Thursday Night into Friday. On the back side of
this high a warm front with a developing wave of low pressure
will move toward the area. This will return the threat of light
precipitation late Friday into Saturday. A second area of low
pressure will develop along the front late Saturday and
Sunday...prolonging the precipitation threat. While at the
onset of this multi day precipitation should be snow...as warmer
air moves north precipitation type issues will develop. The 12z
ECMWF has come in with the second low a bit more developed
compared to the GFS and therefore brings warmer temperatures
further north. For now have split the difference between the
models which results in a transition to rain south of the
mountains on Sunday. High pressure will build in behind the
second low early next week.

.AVIATION /19Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Short Term...Short Term...VFR tonight. Conditions lowering to
IFR/LIFR 14-17z from sw-ne and then continuing into the evening.
After 05z conditions return to VFR from W-E.

Long Term...VFR to MVFR conditions south of the mountains
Thursday on a gusty NW wind. A warm front with 2 areas of low
pressure will bring areas of IFR conditions Friday night into
Saturday and again on Sunday.

.MARINE...
Short Term...Currently the light southwest winds becoming west
this evening. Seas dropping below 5 ft attm and with a light
offshore flow, seas will continue to be knocked down so dropped
the SCAs for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Winds will
increase from the northwest behind the exiting coastal low Wed
night into Thu morning so a SCA has been issued for that time
frame over the waters.

Long Term...Early in the period a gusty NW wind will result in
SCA conditions through midday Thursday. Otherwise conditions
below SCA levels through Friday. Unsettled weather returns for
the weekend as areas of low pressure cross the region.
