Update to forecast sent to tweak down daytime highs. Cloud cover
currently over the CWA is impacting temps area-wide so have begun
to lower overall area. Will drop numbers further later this
morning if no appreciable thinning/clearing of current cloud deck
does not occur.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Wednesday night)
Issued at 430 AM MDT Mon Apr 2 2018

Today...near zonal flow aloft today and the degree of mountain wave
cirrus moving off the front range and into the forecast area is of
concern based on 300mb humidity. Have added some as a result and
hope it wont impact afternoon temperature forecast ranging from the
mid to upper 60s in the east to the mid 70s to low 80s along and
west of the CO/KS border. Winds across the west in the 15 to 25 mph
range while across the east generally 10 to 15 mph from the south.

Focus tonight is the winds and possibility of a High Wind Warning
being needed. Models have slowed down a bit with cold fronts arrival
and now dont bring notable winds into the area til 05z or 06z.
Strongest winds move into the western 1/2 of the area by 09z where 7
to 10mb 3 hour pressure rises move in. 0-3km lapse rates in the 5-6
C/KM range which should help mix down to the surface. This would be
the best time for High Wind Warning criteria to be met as despite
strong winds aloft and 10mb 3 hour pressure rises across the entire
area fight against slowly weakening 0-3km lapse rates. Regardless
still expecting wind gusts in the 45 to 55 mph range. A few showers
are possible across the north through midnight before weakening. Low
temperatures range from the mid 20s northwest to low 30s east
through south.

Have added patchy blowing dust where wind gusts exceed 40kts.

Tuesday...could see warning/near warning criteria gusts south of the
interstate through 15z otherwise just a windy day with northwest
winds gusting in the 40 to 50 mph range during the late morning
through early afternoon hours before slowly decreasing late in the
day. High temperatures look to range from the low to mid 40s north
to around 50 south. Winds quickly come around to the south/southwest
during the night with lows ranging from the upper teens east to low
20s elsewhere across the area.

Wednesday...850mb temperatures warm about 17F to 24F across the area
supporting highs in the mid to upper 60s. Breezy southwest winds in
the morning start to veer to the west and northwest during the
afternoon while decreasing in speed. Low temperatures generally in
the low to mid 30s.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday through Sunday)
Issued at 357 AM MDT Mon Apr 2 2018

Thursday, max temperatures will be in the 60s across the Tri-
State area. As a shortwave moves over our area Thursday evening
into Friday temps will begin to drop. Winds will be light until
Thursday evening where they will pick up ahead of the shortwave
There is a possibility for fire weather criteria impacting the
southwestern portion of our CWA Friday afternoon and evening.

Friday the Tri-State area may see some rainfall transitioning  to
snowfall Friday night. Guidance has become more favorable since
last night's forecast, and expecting the rain and snow to impact
most of the CWA. Our southernmost counties will however see
minimal impacts. The second shortwave that was present to move
through the area on Sunday, has since shifted north just out of
our area. Depending on the next couple of days, guidance will
hopefully do a better job in determining if the system will even
impact our area and what those impacts are. Confidence on impacts
and timing of a potential system on Saturday night into Sunday has
greatly diminished.

Fire weather concerns for the area have also shifted more towards
next Monday's time frame as winds are expected to slightly pick
back up and we are forecast to dry out. Still, it's too far in the
extended to make a solid decision on it. Stay tuned.

VFR conditions expected for both taf sites with scattered high
clouds giving way to BKN050-060 by 08z-09z Tuesday. With a
frontal boundary pushing thru the area overnight...taf sites will
see a wind shift w/ very windy conditions. SSW 10-20kts...becoming
N 15-30kts with gusts...to almost 50kts after 05z-09z.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 430 AM MDT Mon Apr 2 2018

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect today. West and southwest
winds gusting to 35 mph will combine with relative humidity as low
as 10 percent to create critical fire weather conditions. A
strong cold front will enter the warning area late this evening
through the overnight hours producing north to northwest winds
gusting to 65 mph at times. Any ongoing fires will change in
direction and increase in speed and could be uncontrollable.

On Tuesday critical and near critical fire weather conditions are
expected west of a line from Burlington to Leoti.

This hazardous weather outlook is for extreme southwest Nebraska...
northwest Kansas and east central Colorado.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT...

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for Sherman, Wallace, and
Greeley counties in western Kansas and Kit Carson and Cheyenne
counties in eastern Colorado. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged.

A strong cold front will move through the area this evening through
overnight hours. Northwest winds gusting 55 to 65 mph are expected
generally along and west of the Colorado/Kansas border with slightly
lower gusts elsewhere. Patchy blowing dust and reduced visibilities
are possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...

North to northwest winds gusting 55 to 65 mph are possible along and
south of Interstate 70 on Tuesday morning with patchy blowing dust
possible. For the remainder of the day wind gusts in the 40 to 50 mph
range are expected with patchy blowing dust possible. The winds will
subside around sunset.

Critical and near critical fire weather conditions are expected
Tuesday afternoon generally west of a line from Burlington to Leoti.
