Conditions were quiet during the overnight hours beneath a low
amplitude ridge over the forecast area. However, modest mid-level
moisture lingered over the region as evidenced by areas of alto-
cumulus apparent in IR satellite imagery.
Models remained consistent in depicting a weak mid-level shortwave
disturbance moving east-northeastward across the central portion
of the forecast area from late morning through the afternoon.
Farther aloft, difluence/divergence between the subtropical and
polar jets will enhance upward forcing. These dynamic features
combined with mid-level moisture and the destabilizing effects of
daytime warming are expected to bring scattered showers and
thunderstorms from late morning through early evening, mainly over
the mountains. The sub-cloud layer remains relatively dry, so
expect more wind than rain with these storms. Moist convection
will end during the latter part of the evening with dry conditions
continuing through the remainder of the night as drying and
stabilization occurs.
A Pacific trough moves to the West Coast early Thursday morning
and shifts to the western Great Basin during the latter part of
the day. As this occurs, the height gradient tightens driving
stronger mid-level winds which will mix to the surface during the
late morning and afternoon. Winds will be breezy, but will fall
short advisory criteria. Concurrently, a fetch of dry, hot desert
air will advect over the area ahead of the trough. As a result,
precipitation chances become pretty remote, though models don't
completely rule out some isolated activity over the northern
Colorado mountains late in the day.
Expect temperatures to climb a few degrees today, with a more
significant rise to levels close to 10 degrees above normal for
many locations. Overnight lows tonight will be relatively mild.

Winds will begin weakening Thursday night as the atmosphere
decouples, even though the upper level trough will remain to our
west. By Friday morning, the trough will remain to our west but
models continued to show it filling and lifting through the day.
Winds become northwesterly by Friday evening allowing some cooler
air to filter into the region, especially across the northern
valleys. Gusty winds remain in the picture Friday until the
trough moves through so fire weather concerns will need to be
monitored. Usually when a trough moves through we can expect some
sort of precipitation with its passage. Unfortunately, models
favor our northern neighbors for this precipitation with maybe a
passing shower for the eastern Uintahs and northern mountains.
Once again, significant precipitation will elude us.
Dry and warm conditions will persist for the rest of the long term
period with a chance for some showers down south on Sunday and a
few popups here and there over higher terrain each afternoon
through Tuesday, but nothing of import. We're still waiting for a
pattern change...

Thunderstorms will generate strong outflow winds with little to no rain. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday Critical fire weather conditions could develop Thursday with a lesser chance Friday due to gusty southwesterly winds, low relative humidities, warmer temperatures and dry vegetation. Thunderstorms may return to Colorado's southern mountains Sunday and Monday. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation will not be needed.
