* TIMING...Late tonight through Wednesday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Strong winds will make travel difficult for high
  profile vehicles. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Winds have dropped below criteria, thus the warning will be

.DISCUSSION...

Clouds have been on the increase today as the next disturbance
approaches the region. A shortwave trough and cold front will
move through Central and Eastern Montana tonight. With limited
moisture, expected mainly mid and high clouds, although a few
showers are possible over northern areas late tonight and
Wednesday morning. The main impact of the cold front will be
gusty west winds on Wednesday. 850 mb winds are expected to be
around 50 knots Wednesday morning which means there will be a good
chance of wind gusts reaching 60 mph in SW Phillips County where
west winds tend to funnel around the Little Rockies and possibly
over parts of Petroleum County. Have continued the High Wind Watch
for Wednesday in these areas. Surface high moves in Wednesday
Night and diminishes the winds.

Upper ridge builds into Montana on Thursday with dry weather.
Lingering snow cover and light winds will keep temperatures
somewhat cooler along the Canadian Border.

The next cold front and shortwave trough is expected on Friday.
Models differ on how much moisture and cold air advection is
expected. Gusty west winds should bring good mixing which will
limit the immediate effects of cold air advection at the surface.
Will maintain a slight chance to low chance of light rain and
snow on Friday for now.

Flow aloft turns to the WNW for the weekend allowing colder air to
move in although they will still be around 5 degrees above normal
in most areas.

A weak wave may bring a slight chance of light snow to some areas
on Monday. Otherwise, expect mainly dry weather with slightly
above normal temperatures early next week. Forrester/STP

.AVIATION...

FLIGHT CAT: VFR.

Mid and high clouds will continue to move into the area through
tonight. A few isolated showers are possible over northeastern
areas Wednesday morning.

WIND: Winds will turn to the west tonight as a cold front moves
through the area and increase to 15 to 25 knots by Wednesday
morning. Gusts to 50 knots are possible over southwestern areas on
Wednesday.

LLWS: LLWS is expected from 00Z onward this evening as a strong
front approaches from the west. Some 30-40kts of shear is likely
across the entire region, including all of the TAF sites.
