Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED

.AVIATION...
There is not much change in forecast thinking from the 00z TAF
issuance. Southerly winds at 15 to 20 knots will persist at the
TAF sites until a cold front approaches late Friday afternoon and
evening. MVFR ceilings had already spread north through Waco and
was starting to move into the Metroplex as of 0430z.

Waco...Ceilings were already below 2000 feet at KACT as of 0430z
and are expected to fall into the IFR category by 09z. Ceilings
should then improve to MVFR 15-16Z and with deeper mixing during
the afternoon, up to VFR. Though not mentioned in the TAF, some
scattered warm advection showers will be possible Friday morning.
Expect a chance of thunderstorms by 00z Saturday in advance of a
fast-moving cold front. Winds will shift to the north at 15-20
knots with gusts up to 30 knots as the cold front moves through
KACT around 02z Saturday. Ceilings will lower back into the MVFR
category behind the front. Chances of showers and thunderstorms
will continue through 06z Saturday.

Metroplex TAF sites...Mostly MVFR ceilings are expected through
21z Friday, but ceilings may lower into the IFR category for
several hours before and just after daybreak as indicated by a
TEMPO 5SM -RA BKN009. As deeper mixing occurs Friday afternoon,
ceilings should briefly improve to VFR by 21z. A cold front is
expected to move through the Metroplex TAF sites around 23z with a
wind shift to the north at 15 to 20 knots with gusts to/over 30
knots likely. Ceilings will lower back into at least the MVFR
category behind the front and may fall into the IFR category. For
now have placed OVC020 at 23z and SCT008 OVC010 by 04z Saturday.
There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms as the cold
front approaches and for a few hours behind the front. By 04z
Saturday expect mainly showers as noted by the VCSH.

.SHORT TERM... /Issued 353 PM CDT Thu Apr 5 2018/
/Through tonight/
Low clouds managed to hang in across most areas east of I-35 this
afternoon with mostly sunny skies to the west. Temperatures rose
in to the mid 70s to lower 80s across the west while clouds
enshrouded areas to the east only reached the 60s to lower 70s.
As the pressure gradient tightened, south winds increased to 15
to 25 mph this afternoon along and west of the I-35 corridor with
some gusts to around 30 mph at a few sites. Areas to the east had
east to to southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Low clouds will be on the increase tonight across all of the
region on a 30-35 knot low level jet. Some warm advection showers
are possible overnight and there will be a chance of thunderstorms
mainly northeast of a Jacksboro to Canton line as another
shortwave ripples across the Central and Southern Plains. With the
combination of the cloud cover and increased southerly winds,
temperatures will be higher tonight, with lows expected to range
from the mid 50s northeast to the mid 60s across Central Texas.

.LONG TERM... /Issued 353 PM CDT Thu Apr 5 2018/
A stronger shortwave will move across the Plains Friday and
Friday night. As thee feature moves east, a dryline should push
into the western counties Friday afternoon. A strong cap will be
in place, but if we can get thunderstorms to develop, they will
have the potential to become severe. Large hail and damaging
winds will be possible. The cap will break as a cold front sweeps
south in to the North Texas late Friday afternoon. This front
should move to near a Paris to DFW to Comanche line before sunset
Friday and through the rest of the forecast area overnight Friday
night. Southerly winds 10 to 20 mph ahead of the front will shift
to the north at 20 to 25 mph with some gusts to 35 mph possible.
There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms area wide
Friday night with the highest coverage being along and east of
I-35. Some strong to severe storms are expected with large hail
and damaging winds possible.

Most of the models indicate that the rain will come an end by
daybreak Saturday. There may be a brief window between 4 am and 7
am across the far northern zones, when temperatures fall to
freezing with lingering light precipitation. For now have just
included slight chance of light rain/light freezing rain across
parts of Cooke and Grayson Counties. Lows Saturday morning are
expected to be in the 30-32 degree range across areas along and
northwest of a Graham to Sherman line. The NAM is the outlier in
keeping precipitation going through mid-morning Saturday which
would mean a chance of freezing light rain a little farther to the
west. Northerly winds of 20 to 25 mph Saturday morning will
decrease to 10 to 15 mph by late afternoon. Highs will be mostly
in the 50s.

As the next shortwave approaches, winds will quickly come back
around to the southeast Saturday night and become gusty out of the
south on Sunday. Lows Saturday night will be in the mid 30s
northeast to the mid 40s across Central Texas. Highs on Sunday
will be in the mid 60s northeast to the lower 80s west.

Low chances of showers and thunderstorms will return Sunday night
northeast of a Bowie to Canton line as another shortwave and cold
front move across the region. Winds will shift to the northeast

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for North and Central Texas.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible overnight tonight north of a
Jacksboro to Canton line. Severe weather is not expected, but a few
of the stronger storms may produce small hail.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms may linger into Friday
morning...mainly east of a Bowie to Hillsboro to Cameron line. Severe
weather is not expected but a few of the stronger storms may produce
small hail.

Thunderstorm chances will continue into Friday afternoon, although
the coverage of activity is a little uncertain due to a cap in place.
If the cap can be breached, storms that develop Friday afternoon
will likely become severe with large hail and damaging winds being
the primary hazards. Some strong to severe thunderstorms will be
possible Friday night and may linger into Saturday morning.

There will be a slight chance of thunderstorms along and northeast
of Gainesville to Canton line Sunday night and southeast of a
Cameron to Canton line Monday morning.

At 255 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 7
miles south of Burneyville, or 15 miles northwest of Gainesville,
moving east at 20 mph.

Half inch hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm as it moves east north of Highway 82 and along the
immediate Red River.

Locations impacted include...
Northern parts of Gainesville and the Callisburg area.
