.The following river forecasts include forecast precipitation through
tonight. Any additional future rains could affect the crest
forecasts.
Rainfall overnight and early this morning from an inch to an inch and
a half throughout the Ocheyedan River basin will cause rises in the
Ocheyedan River near Spencer, enough to bring into minor flooding by
later Saturday morning.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 610 AM CDT Fri May 11 2018 .SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight) Issued at 348 AM CDT Fri May 11 2018 Band of moderate to locally heavy rainfall streaming along and east of the I-29 corridor will continue to track eastward this morning, exiting the area by late morning. Unsettled weather will continue through the day however, with a surface frontal boundary stalled to our south and east across far southeast Nebraska and into central Iowa. While temperatures will remain well below normal today under cloudy or mostly cloudy skies, daytime heating will help trigger isolated to scattered showers across the forecast area. Some weak elevated instability will allow a few rumbles of thunder in the afternoon, but strong or severe storms are not expected. Showers should diminish by sunset with the loss of daytime heating. Additional rainfall amounts with the late morning and afternoon showers are expected to be less than a quarter inch. Highs will only reach the upper 40s to mid 50s, but may be closer to 60 near Sioux City. Much of this evening and overnight will remain dry, however mid level moisture will persist, keeping clouds in the picture. Late tonight, surface and mid level boundary in southeastern/south central Nebraska will drift northward enough to allow scattered light rain showers to potentially lift into the Missouri Valley late. Lows are expected in the 40s. .LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday) Issued at 348 AM CDT Fri May 11 2018 Strong stationary front south towards I-80 will keep the warm air bottled to the south through the weekend. Further to the north, strong easterly flow will prevail, with deep saturation in the near surface layer. With saturation of 5-6K feet, could see some patchy drizzle throughout the day. The extensive cloud cover will also limit warming potential on Saturday. Clouds will hang tough Saturday night into Sunday across the region keeping temperatures well below normal. Surface high pressure will build in from the north on Sunday, which will lead to at least partial clearing north of I-90. This could lead to warmer temperatures across the north than the south. Upper trough across the intermountain west begins to break down early next week with a series of short waves ejecting into the plains. This leads to repositioning the stationary boundary to the south, and periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms. Upper level trough to the west breaks down by midweek, but as soon as it does so, a second upper level trough moves into the Pacific Northwest.
