.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday)

Upper level energy working east this afternoon with enough moisture
and weak instability to allow rain and snow showers to develop. Not
really expecting much accumulation but a tenth or two in grassy
areas will remain possible. Clouds should continued to erode from
northwest to southeast through the night which will allow
temperatures to drop a bit. Offsetting this will be a gradually
increasing south to southwest wind so complete radiational cooling
is not expected. Late tonight winds may also get a bit gusty along
the Buffalo Ridge. So, even with early evening temperatures starting
out around 40 degrees, lows should generally be in the mid 30s,
possibly rising in some spots.

Saturday will prove to be a decent day, but winds at times could be
a bit on the stronger side, especially in central SD (northwest
winds behind front) and northwest IA (southwest winds ahead of
front). This incoming front is in response to the wave currently
digging into eastern MT. The southerly flow ahead of the front will
allow highs in the mid to upper 50s while central SD will be closer
to the lower 50s and will see some falling afternoon temperatures as
the stronger CAA settles in. As the wave and front move through
enough mid level moisture will likely support some sprinkles or
light showers in the afternoon.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday night through Friday)

By Saturday night the low to mid level boundary slows just a bit so
expect better chances for precipitation south of Interstate 90.
While the precipitation could be either rain or snow amounts should
be limited with any impacts on the smaller side. The southern jet
does increase late Saturday night into Sunday morning so this will
be a time to keep an eye out for any changes to the forecast as it
could help organize the mid level boundary and possibly bring a
slightly more organized band of precipitation.

A broad trough of low pressure will work across the area Sunday
afternoon into Monday and will help set up a drier and milder
pattern as an upper level ridge builds into the area through the
week. If westerly flow can set up early enough on Monday highs will
likely get into the 50s west of Interstate 29 and a few degrees
warmer everywhere else. Wednesday and Thursday appear to be the
warmest days through Friday with highs likely in the 60s in many
locations. Precipitation chances are minimal through next week.
