.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Sunday)

Relatively quiet weather expected tonight into Sunday with surface
high pressure across the Upper Midwest slowly shifting east.  With
light winds and a clearing sky across northwest Iowa, could once
again see patchy fog develop across northwest Iowa where most
abundant low level moisture remains.

Cold front currently in northwestern South Dakota approaches the
forecast area on Sunday. Potentially a weak mid level wave moving
along the front may lead to showers and storms across central South
Dakota.  Can not rule out an isolated shower or storm further to the
east, but expect activity to remain fairly isolated in nature.
Storms closer to the front will have a bit more potential to produce
a bit more rainfall with higher pwat values, but given storms should
be isolated - scattered in nature, do not see a need at this point
to highlight the potential.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Saturday)

Boundary is expected to stall just south of the forecast area on
Monday leading to a relatively pleasant day.  As boundary starts to
bubble back to the north Monday night, could see a few elevated
storms develop in the Missouri River Valley early Tuesday morning.
Lapse rates aloft are nearly moist adiabatic, leading to a meager
amount of instability.

A series of wave are expected to move across the region Tuesday
night into Wednesday.  The ECMWF phases the waves together, while
the GFS keeps the initial wave separate and further to the south.
Best chances of precipitation with the leading wave appear to be
across the south near the South Dakota/Nebraska border if there is
an impact to our forecast area. Wave moves across the area during
the day on Wednesday, leading to a cool and wet day. Instability and
shear appear to be weak, so am not expecting much beyond showers and
thunderstorms moving across the region.

Behind the wave, upper ridge across the west builds across the
western half of the US leading to dry and temperate conditions.
Another trough moves across central Canada next weekend, though the
upper ridge will keep much of that system bottled to the north.

Quiet overnight period expected weather-wise. Could see some
patchy fog Sunday morning around daybreak in NW Iowa but kept
mention at KSUX minimal with declining signals in the models. A
cold front will swing through the region during the daytime hours
switching winds to more northerly and bringing a small chance at
hit or miss showers or perhaps a thunderstorm. Chances and
confidence are too low to warrant anything more than a VCSH
mention at this time.
