Main impacts for today will be additional flooding concerns with
heavy rain expected over parts of the area, and possible severe
storms over our southeastern zones in the afternoon and evening.

The well advertised upper level low is currently centered over
western Nebraska very early this morning, and while showers have
pretty much tapered off over our area, additional convection is
poised over east central NE out ahead of the low. Expect these
showers and thunderstorms to lift northward into the MO River Valley
during the morning hours as the low tracks eastward, with
precipitation eventually lifting into the heart of our CWA during
the afternoon. By afternoon, rainfall amounts could approach 1, to
locally 2 inches through the MO River corridor, with lesser amounts
back to the north and east. The greatest flooding concerns during
the day will exist through northeastern NE, northwestern IA, and
far southeastern SD where 1 to 4 inches of rain fell overnight. In
light of that, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for that area
through the day.

The severe weather threat will be conditional on the evolution of
morning and early afternoon convection. If the airmass over our
southeastern areas can recover by afternoon/early evening, there
will be the potential for the development of severe storms with CAPE
of 1200 J/KG and bulk shear of 30-35 kts. In addition, tornadic
parameters would suggest the potential for an isolated tornado over
northwestern IA in the late afternoon/early evening as a warm front
lifts northward out of eastern NE.

Tonight the upper level low tracks from eastern NE into western IA
overnight, with showers and thunderstorms wrapping northward around
the low as a "dry slot" works into the southern portions of our area
during the late evening hours. Additional rainfall amounts during
the night will average around half an inch east of I-29, dropping
off rapidly back to the west. As the event winds down on Tuesday
morning, storm total rainfall for the Monday to Tuesday time frame
will average 1 to 2 inches through the MO River corridor into
northwestern IA, to around half an inch through the Highway 14
corridor, though locally higher amounts could be possible in a
heavier storm.

The upper level low glides into the central Mississippi Valley later
on Tuesday with any rain ending across our area. This will lead to
improving conditions for the remainder of the week with mainly dry
conditions as upper level ridging slowly builds into the region.
With that will come substantial warming for Wednesday through Friday
as highs climb into the mid 80s to lower 90s. By the weekend an
upper level trough over the western CONUS pushes eastward, bringing
increasing rain chances and cooling temperatures for Saturday and
Sunday.

tonight. There will be a threat of heavy rainfall with these
storms, with the potential for flooding of urban and poor drainage
areas. Additional local rainfall up to 1 to 3 inches is possible.
In addition, isolated storms could become severe in the
afternoon, with hail to the size of quarters, winds to 60 mph, and
even an isolated tornado possible.
