.Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and
rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.
The latest stage data was furnished in cooperation with the United
States Geological Survey.

* At 7 AM Wednesday the stage was 572.8 feet...and rising.
* Flood stage is 570.0 feet.
* At 573.0 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the
woodlands...fields and pasture along the river upstream and
downstream from the gage behind Plant Hammond. The access road near
the intakes behind the plant begins to flood. The boat ramp near
the intakes and a small portion of an access road near and under
the Georgia Highway 100 bridge will be under 3 feet of water.

* At 10 AM Wednesday the stage was 2.7 feet...and falling but will begin rising
later today and tonight.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by early thursday and continue
to rise to near 8.7 feet by Thursday early afternoon.The river will
fall below flood stage by Thursday afternoon.
* At 9.0 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek upstream and
downstream from the gage at U S Highway 23 or Buford Highway. Most
of the Suwanee Creek Greenway and trails are flooded from the
Suwanee Creek Park to George Pierce Park. The minor flooding will
also begin to affect portions of the playground area behind the
Suwanee Elementary School.

treatment plant off Mauldin Road. A boat ramp and portions of a
small parking lot on the upstream and right bank side of the
Georgia Highway 136 Connector will be under water.

The Big Creek near Alpharetta.
* Until late Friday night.
* At 11 AM Wednesday the stage was 8.2 feet...and falling.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 8.4 feet by early Friday
morning. The river will fall below flood stage Friday before
midnight.
* At 8.0 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the
woodlands and fields along the creek from near Cumming in south
Forsyth County to Alpharetta and Roswell in north Fulton County.
Additional portions of The Big Creek Greenway have minor flooding
with 1 to 2 feet of water. Most of the walking and biking paths
will be closed...especially upstream and downstream from the gage
on Kimball Bridge Road and near Rock Mill Park. Portions of the
YMCA Campground off Preston Ridge Road will flood.

* At 11 AM Wednesday the stage was 11.1 feet...and falling.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by this
evening.
* At 12.0 feet...Minor flooding continues in the woodlands and fields
upstream and downstream from the gage near the Interstate 20
bridge. Portions of a paintball playing field just downstream of
the bridge and athletic fields in the Woodrow Wilson Park on Mount
Vernon Road are flooded with one to two feet of water. Water also
floods yards of four elevated homes along Mount Vernon Road. A
portion of Wren Circle in Douglas County...the County Iron Works
and Sunlight Drive in Cobb County begin to flood.

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by early tomorrow and continue
to rise to near 20.4 feet by Saturday evening.The river will fall
below flood stage by Monday morning.
* At 20.0 feet...Minor flooding expands. An increasing amount of the
Macon GreenWay Ocmulgee Heritage Trail floods north of the Martin
Luther King Boulevard bridge. The flood waters will be around one
foot deep on portions of the trail and both banks overflow upstream
from the bridge. Large portions of agricultural lands well
downstream will be under one to three feet of water.

woodlands and pastures near the river. The water level is very
close to Ward Road on the right bank. Flood waters will be
approaching irrigation systems and they may need to be moved to
higher ground.

* Minor flooding is occurring and forecast to reach close to
Moderate flooding.
* Flood stage is 13 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 15.7 feet by Thursday early
afternoon then fall briefly before rising close to 17.5 feet by
Friday night. The river will fall below flood stage early Sunday
morning.
* At 18 feet...Moderate flooding begins. Ward Road floods and cuts
off access to L.C. Curtis and Son Sand and Gravel Company.
Irrigation systems also begin to flood and need to be moved to
higher ground.

Short term forecast continues to be relatively straight forward and summed up in a single word: wet. But there does seem to be an end in sight in time for the weekend. Models continue to show deepening upper level flow over the lower Mississippi Valley that will lift through the Tennessee Valley through late Thursday. The combination of anomalously high precipitable water, strong forcing, and enhanced isentropic lift will support a prolonged period of moderate to heavy rainfall through Thursday, particularly this evening and overnight. Main concern will be the flooding potential, with limited instability keeping the severe storm threat non-existent. For now, the heaviest forecast rainfall amounts run northeast across the state, stretching from the greater Columbus area through Athens. In this wide swath, 1.5 to 2.5 inches are forecast, with the majority of it occurring between 7 PM tonight and early Thursday morning. The highest forecast rainfall amounts are east of Atlanta, north of I-20 and south of I-85 (in the Athens area), where rainfall amounts of 2.5" or more will be common. The prolonged rainfall observed over the last several days has kept soils saturated, with local creeks and rivers at normal to well above normal levels. As rainfall continues to accumulated, the ability of rivers to handle the increased runoff is suppressed and could quickly result in flash flooding. The Flash Flood Watch continues for a large majority of north and central Georgia through Thursday morning. Near the end of the period, cold air advection will allow temperatures to cool quickly Thursday night.
