The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northeastern Murray County in northwestern Georgia...
  Gilmer County in north central Georgia...
  Central Fannin County in north central Georgia...

* Until 1045 AM EDT Saturday.

* At 439 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain across the warned area. Two to three inches of rain 
  have fallen and an additional one to two inches are expected. 
  Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Ellijay, Blue Ridge, East Ellijay, Jones Mill, Higdon, Gregory,
  Cohutta Wilderness, Springer Mountain Shelter, Conasauga Lake,
  Tennga, Cartecay, Pisgah, Cisco, Cherry Log, Mountaintown, Stover
  Creek Shelter, Colwell, Roy and Black Gap Shelter.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding. Never drive through running water of unknown 
depth. It only takes less than two feet of water to sweep away a 
vehicle.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1045 AM EDT FOR
NORTHEASTERN MURRAY...GILMER AND CENTRAL FANNIN COUNTIES...

At 819 AM EDT, the heavy rain overnight had ended and while small 
creeks and streams have subsided, larger creeks and rivers will 
continue see rises through the morning as runoff continues.

Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Ellijay, Blue Ridge, East Ellijay, Jones Mill, Higdon, Gregory,
Cohutta Wilderness, Springer Mountain Shelter, Conasauga Lake,
Tennga, Cartecay, Pisgah, Cisco, Cherry Log, Mountaintown, Stover
Creek Shelter, Colwell, Roy and Black Gap Shelter.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.
