.A low pressure system located near Eagle Pass early this morning
will result in bands of showers with embedded thunderstorms 
moving across portions of South Central Texas today. These bands 
will be capable of producing isolated 4 inch rainfall amounts 
through this evening as they wrap around the low pressure system. 
Some of these bands may move repeatedly across the same locations,
increasing the potential for flash flooding. Because of the 
uncertainty in where these bands will set up today and the 
region's sensitivity to additional rainfall, the Flash Flood Watch

.AVIATION...
Ceilings are continuing to break early this afternoon and VFR
conditions should break out at all terminals within the next hour or
so. While there will be decent coverage of cloudcover through the
afternoon skies should be VFR through the evening. Isolated showers
have already developed east of I-35 and these should move into the
I-35 corridor later this afternoon potentially impacting the
terminals (AUS/SAT/SSF). Because of this VCSH and -SHRA have been
added to the I-35 sites through the afternoon and evening. Cigs will
return along I-35 between 04z and 06z and continue to drop to IFR
between 09z and 11z. MVFR cigs will develop at DRT around 09z and
last through 16z on Friday. Improvement in ceilings tomorrow along
I-35 will be slow, but MVFR should return by mid morning with another
round of scattered showers expected through the day.

AVIATION...
MVFR/IFR ceilings are in place across all TAF sites this morning and
should prevail through the late morning hours before VFR returns this
afternoon. There are some very isolated showers to the southeast of
KSAT but these are not worth mentioning. More robust showers are
expected this afternoon and will mention VCSH with TEMPO groups for
SHRA. Will keep the overnight period rain free as most of the high
res guidance shows things rain free with the loss of heating.
Another round of MVFR and perhaps IFR conditions can be expected
tonight.

PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 425 AM CDT Thu Sep 13 2018/

NEAR TERM (Today into Tonight)...
Expect today will be similar to yesterday. The deepest moisture with
PWs around 2 inches remains along and east of I-35 keeping greatest
coverage of showers and thunderstorms over those areas. Locally heavy
rains and minor flooding are possible.

SHORT TERM (Friday through Sunday)...
The tropical disturbance that has been drifting west across the Gulf
of Mexico moves across central and southern Texas on Friday into
Saturday, then into Mexico by Sunday. Models have been trending
toward the GFS in keeping it more of an open wave. Currently, the
National Hurricane Center indicates a 60% chance of tropical cyclone
development. Regardless of development, the main impact will be
increased heavy rains causing a threat of flash flooding and renewed
river flooding.

Moisture levels increase as PWs rise to 2.0 to 2.5 inches. Showers
and thunderstorms become more numerous to widespread with a
corresponding greater coverage of heavy rains most areas Friday into
Saturday, shifting to the Rio Grande and Edwards Plateau Saturday
night into Sunday. Should the system become a tropical cyclone, then
the heaviest rains will become more focused in bands and near the
center. There remains uncertainty on where this center would move
across in those few models that still show a closed center. Model
consensus shows the highest rainfall amounts from San Antonio metro
area to the south and west, however a few models show a few spots
elsewhere.

Current indications show rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with
isolated totals of up to 8 inches. Due to the saturated soils from
the heavy rains thus far in September, the threat for flash flooding
and renewed river flooding increases as runoff will be more rapid.
Expect a Flash Flood Watch will be issued for Friday into Saturday
for at least part of our area as models come more into a consensus.

Key Messages:

1) Regardless of tropical cyclone development, the main impact from
this system will be periods of heavy rain and potential flooding
across South Central Texas Friday through Sunday.
2) Flash Flooding of low water crossings and urban areas possible.
Turn Around, Don't Drown!
3) Heavy rainfall and flooding will be of greatest concern from the
San Antonio metro area to the south and west.
4) Flooding possible on Rio Grande, Nueces, Frio, and San Antonio
River systems.

LONG TERM (Monday through Wednesday)...
In the wake of the tropical disturbance, the Subtropical Ridge builds
toward our area. Showers and thunderstorms become more isolated and
driven by heating as the airmass dries with increasing subsidence.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for South-Central Texas..

.DAY ONE...Today And Tonight.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected today into tonight. Locally
heavy rains are possible and may cause mainly minor flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday through Monday.
Heavy rains become more widespread Friday into Saturday resulting
in a greater threat for flash flooding and possibly renewed river
flooding. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches will be possible with
isolated totals up to 8 inches. Due to recent rains and the
saturated ground even a quick 1 inch of rainfall could lead to
flash flooding issues in some areas. The area of greatest concern
for the heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding will be across
the Rio Grande, western Hill Country and San Antonio metro areas.
Chances and coverage of rainfall will begin to decrease during
the first part of next week.
