.SYNOPSIS...Hot and dry weather occurring across the interior
during Sunday will transition to slightly cooler conditions by mid
to late next week. Elsewhere, a marine airmass will yield cool
and humid conditions along the coast.

.DISCUSSION...Visible satellite imagery shows thick smoke
occurring across portions of Del Norte, Trinity, and eastern
Mendocino Counties Sunday afternoon, with a thinner area of smoke
extending southward along the Humboldt Coast. These pockets of
smoke (and associated haze) will persist across northwest
California through at least early week due to continued wildfire
activity. Otherwise, clear skies will continue over inland areas
due to subsidence associated with a large upper ridge positioned
over the WRN CONUS. Model guidance indicates that destabilization
may be sufficient for towering cumulus development over the
Trinity Horn Monday and Tuesday afternoon. However, isolated
shower/thunderstorm development does not look probable at this
time...thus the forecast remains dry during the next seven days.
During mid to late week, model output shows a series of upper
troughs moving east across the NWRN-NCNTRL CONUS, which will aid
in breaking down the previously mentioned ridge, and subsequently
lead to slightly cooler temperatures over the interior.

.AVIATION...A marine layer airmass and associated stratus continue
to dominate coastal areas. The stratus deck has dissipated over
portions of the coast Sunday afternoon, particularly south of
Cape Mendocino, but continues to linger in the vicinity of KACV
and KCEC. Model guidance indicates IFR to occasional LIFR
ceilings/visibility will redevelop late this evening through
Monday morning as stratus spreads inland. Otherwise, smoke/haze is
observed in satellite imagery across Del Norte, eastern Trinity,
and southeastern Mendocino counties. Smoke and haze may locally
reduce visibility to around 4SM.

.FIRE WEATHER...Sunday afternoon temperatures across the interior
have once again warmed into the 90s to low 100s, which is
resulting in min RH values in the teens, and is forecast to be
followed by poor to moderate recovery during Sunday night. The hot
dry airmass will be collocated with northwesterly winds locally
gusting up to 20-30 mph over southeastern Mendocino County Sunday
afternoon and evening. Elevated to locally critical fire weather
conditions will occur as a result in the vicinity of the Mendocino
Complex. In addition, westerly winds will accelerate through
east-west oriented canyons and passes in Trinity County this
afternoon and evening, which will cause fire weather conditions to
become elevated there as well.
After Sunday, temperatures are forecast to gradually cool during
the upcoming work week as westerly onshore flow penetrates farther
inland, and an upper ridge over the WRN CONUS breaks down. This
will support a modest increase in min RH values and improving
overnight recoveries.
