.SYNOPSIS...Hot and dry conditions will occur across the region
through Sunday. Cooler temperatures will redevelop next week.

.DISCUSSION...An upper high was positioned over the northeastern
Pacific early Friday morning. Dry subsident northwesterly flow
aloft was occurring east of the high across the West Coast. This
flow regime will promote highs across the interior in the 90s
today, with temperatures from 100-105 possible in the vicinity of
Ukiah and Weaverville/Douglas City Saturday afternoon. The hot
temperatures will yield an increased risk of heat related illness
over central and eastern Mendocino County during Saturday.
In addition, surface high pressure located over the NERN PAC
combined with low pressure over the SRN Great Basin will support
northerly winds from 5-15 mph, with gusts from 20-30 mph possible
across exposed ridges. The hot dry airmass combined with locally
gusty north winds will result in an elevated threat of rapid fire
spread through Sunday (reference the fire weather discussion
below).
After the weekend, a period of robust upper troughing is forecast
to occur along and west of the coast. The primary impact occurring
with this pattern change will be cooler temperatures by the middle
of next week.

.AVIATION...Low clouds have once again developed along the
Redwood Coast from some wisps S of KCEC to more a more substantial
bank of clouds over the lower Redwood Coast, Humboldt Bay, and
portions of the Eel River Valley. This cloudiness is still rather
small in areal coverage and disconnected from the main cloud bank
well offshore. As a result, clouds are expected to erode a bit
later this morning, then return once again by this evening. NW to
N winds are expected to gust to around 20 knots by afternoon at
all TAF sites. /SEC

.MARINE...N winds will begin to increase again during the day
today, with gale force gusts likely over the S outer waters by
this evening. The Gale Watch for the S outer waters has been
upgraded to a warning starting at 9 PM this evening. Wind gusts
over the N outer waters are expected to increase to gale force a
bit later, and have maintained the Gale Watch in that area. The
day shift will likely upgrade this to a warning as we get closer
to the event. Have maintained no headlines for the N inner waters,
but later shifts will need to watch the areal coverage of winds
and/or encroachment of higher seas for a possible advisory if the
strongest winds shift closer to the coast. /SEC

.FIRE WEATHER...Hot dry weather will occur through Sunday. Inland
valleys will warm into the 90s Friday, with a few locations
reaching 100 to 105 degrees during Saturday afternoon. As a
result, RH values in the 20s and 30s will be probable during
Friday, falling further into the teens and 20s on Saturday. In
addition, north winds from 5 to 15 mph with occasional gusts from
20 to 30 mph (strongest winds occurring over exposed ridges) are
likely across portions of the interior.
The driest fuels continue to reside over Mendocino and Lake
Counties, which will support a critical fire weather threat
tonight into Saturday due to the conditions discussed above. Thus,
the Red Flag Warning has been maintained, but now includes
locations 1000 feet in elevation or higher. Elsewhere, the Flat
Fire has grown to over 400 acres southeast of Douglas City in
Trinity County. Despite the ongoing fire, the combination of
slightly marginal fuel dryness and small temporal and spatial
coverage of low RH/gusty winds precludes a Red Flag Warning over
fire zone 283 at this time.
