AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 254 PM PDT Sun Jun 10 2018 .SYNOPSIS...A more summer-like pattern is expected over the next week as high pressure aloft builds over the region. Mainly dry and warmer conditions are expected with plentiful sunshine across the interior and a mix of sun and low clouds along the coast. && .DISCUSSION...Mostly sunny skies have prevailed today, but a weak front is bringing increasing cloudiness across Del Norte and N Humboldt counties as of this writing. This frontal band will bring some light showers to the extreme N portion of the area, but the system will weaken overnight. Another disturbance will approach the area on Wednesday, but this one will be weaker than the first. As a result, cloud increases and light showers will mainly be confined to the N coastal waters. Otherwise, a dry and warm week is on tap for the area. Afternoon high temperatures will warm to 10 to 15 degrees above normal across portions of the interior, courtesy of building high pressure aloft. The hottest temperatures are expected on Tuesday, Thursday, and next weekend. An onshore component to low-level winds should keep the immediate coast closer to normal. However, there are indications that flow will become more offshore by next weekend, particularly N of Cape Mendocino. As a result, high temperatures are expected to rise above 70 at the coast. /SEC && .AVIATION...Marine stratus is mostly absent and expect only limited redevelopment over night tonight as the marine layer remains some what disturbed by the current passing weak systems. Expect some fog possible at the coastal sites if the approaching system pushes marine stratus hidden beneath the mid and higher clouds on of the satellite, into the coast. Continued prob30 with MVFR conditions for some showers at KCEC over night when this system makes landfall. Saw some development of low clouds and fog in the inland valleys over night and expect this again tonight for mainly north of Garberville. Otherwise, VFR conditions will be the rule over Northwest CA. mkn && .MARINE...Wind will continue generally light but southerly north of Cape Mendocino and northerly to the south through tonight. As the week begins a return to northerly wind is expected as week ridging between passing systems moves on shore. By Thursday another approaching weak system moves into the coast bringing weaker north or westerly wind. By the end of the week expect a period of stronger north wind to move into the coast as a more seasonal ridging pattern over the Pacific Northwest and the North Coast develops. With these relatively light winds, outside of localized spots downwind of capes and headlands, combined seas will be dominated by a northwesterly swell coming in around 5 to 6 feet at 9 to 10 seconds into Tuesday. As a building ridge moves over the coast ahead of the weak system Thursday steeper locally building seas will begin to dominate, followed by a short lived lull as the system passes Thursday.
