.SYNOPSIS...Clearing skies and warming temperatures are expected
Friday and Saturday and high pressure builds into the area. The
high pressure will weaken on Sunday and into next week.
Temperatures will start to cool slightly and an increase in
coastal clouds is expected.

.DISCUSSION...High pressure has started to build into the area
this afternoon. Temperatures aloft have cooled considerably from
yesterday. There is also quite a bit of strato CU clouds over the
interior areas. Both of these are combining to keep temperatures
below normal in the inland areas. This cooler airmass has also
weakened the inversion and this has helped allow the coastal areas
to clear out.
Tonight offshore flow and weak inversion is expected to keep the
cloud cover in the coastal areas fairly minimal. Any clouds that
do form at the coast should clear quickly. Inland the strato CU
currently in place may sink into some of the valleys tonight and
then take some time to clear tomorrow. Valleys that clear out
tonight have the potential to see some frost, but this will be
highly localized.
Temperatures across the interior on Friday will start to quickly
warm back up with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. High pressure
and offshore flow continue on Saturday as the ridge builds in.
Saturday is expected to be the warmest day before the ridge starts
to break down. Highs in the 90s are expected in most inland areas
with 80s in the near coastal areas and 60s along the coast. Any
coastal stratus is expected to be limited in coverage and short-
lived Friday and Saturday.
Sunday and into next week the ridge of high pressure starts to
flatten out as a series of weak shortwaves move over the top of
it. The southwest flow is not very favorable for convection so
at this point convection is not expected. Temperatures in the
inland areas will generally be in upper 80s to low 90s on Sunday
with some additional cooling Monday through the middle of the
week when highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. As the ridge
weakens flow becomes slightly more onshore and marine stratus is
expected to be more prevalent along the coast. This will likely
keep temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60. MKK

.AVIATION...While some MVFR level clouds remain across interior
areas this afternoon, VFR conditions are expected in most areas of
Northwest California through tomorrow, with a few exceptions
along the coast overnight tonight and early Friday morning.
Patches of nocturnal IFR marine stratus will likely develop in a
few places, and while it is more likely at ACV as opposed to CEC,
confidence is low that it will move into the terminal even here.
Otherwise, expect only moderately breezy north winds along the

.MARINE...Winds and seas continue to diminish this afternoon. As
such, the small craft advisories in the southern waters remain on
track to drop off this evening. Will allow the northern out waters
to expire at 3pm today. Seas are expected to drop to 3 to 5 feet
tonight and mainly be around 8 to 10 seconds. Another mid-period
swell of 4 to 6 feet will arrive on Friday.
Friday morning winds will remain fairly light north of Cape
Mendocino, but will pick up south of the cape late in the morning
and afternoon with the potential for small craft advisory
conditions there Friday afternoon and evening. These stronger
northerlies will expand again this weekend as a thermal trough
develops over California, while high pressure remains anchored
offshore.
High pressure starts to flatten Sunday into early next week and
modest northerly winds will continue. Some fluctuations are
expected, but generally northerly winds of 15 to 25 kt are
expected through the first half of next week. At this time gales
