What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Eureka, CA wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Apr 28, 2:42 PM PDT, 10 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Apr 28, 2:42 PM PDT, 10 minutes before
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Eureka CA
242 PM PDT Sat Apr 28 2018

.SYNOPSIS...An upper-level low will continue to bring showers
with occasional heavy downpours to much of our area this evening,
and additional scattered showers on Sunday. Cool temperatures
will continue into Monday. High pressure will rebuild on Monday,
resulting in dry weather for the upcoming week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...The upper-level low which continues to be the main
driving force behind our weather this weekend is gradually
beginning to lift northeastward across western Oregon, but will
continue to send impulses of energy and moisture across northwest
California through the remainder of the weekend. Temperatures
aloft are actually be warming, resulting in gradually more stable
conditions thus the threat of thunderstorms is waning. Heading
into Sunday, the upper- level low will continue to lift farther
away, but another shortwave rotating around from the north-
northwest will pass by our area with a good bet for more scattered
showers. However, the shower activity will likely be weaker and
less frequent, especially south across Mendocino county. Depending
on the exact timing of of the passage of this last shortwave,
there is a good chance that coastal areas will dry out with even
some partial clearing possible by the late afternoon and evening
hours. High pressure will begin to build in for Monday, with a dry
day expected. While there should be some sunshine, guidance is
indicating a layer of lingering low-level moisture resulting in
some areas of clouds and perhaps some valley fog as well.
Otherwise, if skies clear out for Monday morning or Tuesday
morning across the interior, we will need to keep an eye on frost
for the colder valleys of Trinity county. Highs will still be cool
on Monday, and northerly winds will result in a couple of brisk
days along the coast despite some sunshine. As these winds relax
and temperatures across interior areas begin to warm for the
middle and later portions of the week, some areas of coastal
stratus and fog may develop. Otherwise, dry weather should
continue through Friday, despite hints in some of the medium-
range model guidance of a weak system trying to pass by Friday
into Saturday. /AAD/JT

&&

.AVIATION...Widespread continue to spread NE across the Redwood
Coast. Rains will become more showery over the next few hours and
gradually decrease in coverage overnight tonight. Any isolated
thunderstorm activity is expected to remain well NE of the area.
Ceilings have mostly been running above MVFR criteria today, but
some lower ceilings are occasionally impacting KACV. Expect ceiling
heights to gradually lower this evening and overnight with some low
land fog possible. Winds will be generally light. /SEC

&&

.MARINE...Light S-SW winds will become westerly tonight veer to N on
Sunday. Winds will begin to ramp up on Sunday as high pressure
builds NW of the region and a thermal trough develops over the
mainland. Have hoisted a Small Craft Advisory for the outer waters
starting mid-afternoon Sunday. Northerly gale force gusts are
forecast to develop by Monday afternoon and continue through the end
of the forecast period, particularly over the outer waters. A Gale
Watch will probably need to be issued either this evening or
tonight. NW swell at periods of 10 to 14 seconds will persist
through most of the period. /SEC
