.SYNOPSIS...Clear skies will prevail over much of the region
tonight leading to chilly Wednesday morning lows. A front will
move across northwest California during the day Wednesday and aid
in very light precipitation mainly over Humboldt and Del Norte
counties. Dry weather will return Friday and Saturday, followed by
another chance of rain on Sunday.

.DISCUSSION...An upper-level ridge was building over the west
coast Monday afternoon, while farther upstream, a shortwave trough
was moving east across the Gulf of Alaska. Large-scale subsidence
occurring with the ridge is aiding in mainly clear skies, which
when combined with drying in the boundary layer, will be favorable
for chilly overnight lows and possible frost near Humboldt Bay
and areas immediately inland from the Mendocino Coast. Thus, frost
advisories remain in effect from 1 AM to 9 AM PST Wednesday.
A surface frontal boundary associated with the trough over the
Gulf of Alaska is forecast to advance southward to the Redwood
Coast during Wednesday morning. Weak ascent and moisture
accompanying the front will aid in light rainfall...mainly over
Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Rain is forecast to dissipate
during Thursday as high pressure and upper ridging become re-
established across the region. This will yield mainly dry weather
and seasonable temperatures Friday and Saturday. The upper ridge
is forecast to break down Saturday night into Sunday as a trough
enters the NERN PAC. However, precipitation occurring during ridge
break down is highly uncertain due to large model spread. Forecast
confidence remains low going into early next week.

.AVIATION...Gusty north winds occurring along the coast Tuesday
afternoon are forecast to weaken after sunset as the boundary
layer stabilizes. Otherwise, a few high clouds will start to
spread across the region tonight ahead of a weak front. Ceilings
will then drop to around 5000 feet Wednesday morning as the
previously mentioned front enters the area, with light rain
possible by 18Z in the vicinity of KCEC. Farther south, IFR
visibility restrictions may occur before sunrise at KUKI due to
shallow ground fog...similar to what occurred early Tuesday
morning.

.MARINE...Gale force northerlies have generally weakened over the
southern outer waters Tuesday afternoon, with small craft speeds
expected to subside tonight as a weak front approaches the region
from the north. Surface high pressure will become re-established
after frontal passage resulting in strengthening north winds
during Thursday and Friday. Otherwise, steep wind waves will
subside temporarily during the next 24 hours. However, a 7 foot
northwesterly swell at 12 seconds will persist through midweek,
and then build to 8-10 feet at 15 seconds Thursday night into
Friday.
