crest due to potential rainfall on Monday.

Widespread thunderstorms with heavy rain continued across southern
Wisconsin into northeast Illinois during the early morning hours.
Early morning temperatures ranged from the low 70s to near 80
degrees.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
ISSUED AT 325 AM CDT Sat Jun 16 2018
The main forecast issue in the short term period remains the ongoing
oppressive heat and humidity.
Near term, isolated storms developing along the outflow of a complex
across southwest Wisconsin may reach Stephenson County. Will
continue to monitor trends and add pops as needed. Heavy
rain/severe storms will not be an issue.
Looking ahead, expect another very hot and humid day. Stronger winds
are expected to produce slightly lower dewpoints than Friday, but
temperatures will be a bit warmer. The end result will be another
day of afternoon heat index values solidly in the 100 to 105
range. The heat advisory continues area-wide through Sunday. Some
CAMS are developing isolated showers and storms mainly along/east
of the Mississippi River. Cannot rule this scenario out, but will
keep forecast dry for now with low confidence that anything will
be able to overcome the cap.
Tonight, expect more warm and muggy conditions, with lows in the
low to mid 70s.
.LONG TERM...(Sunday through next Friday)

Sunday...another full on brunt-of-the-heat day under western flank
of the ongoing thermal dome. Mixing profiles up over H9 MB again to
drive widespread ambient temps in the mid 90s away from the Hwy 20
corridor, with a few upper 90s possible. Some sites not all that far
off of record highs for June 17th. Breezy southwest winds of 10-20
MPH will also be a result of the deeper mixing, as well as sfc dpts
lowering into the upper 60s to low 70s during the afternoon. But
most of the area to still be under solid heat advisory criteria of
100-105+ degree heat index readings into the early evening. Active
ring of fire pattern from the central plains, to up acrs the
northeastern GRT LKS may have a portion of it gush southeastward
enough for decaying for storm outflow and weakening/decaying
convection to make it into the far northwestern DVN CWA later Sunday
night or into early Monday morning. Ongoing southwesterly breeze sfc
winds to keep Sunday night lows up in the mid to upper 70s.
Monday and Tuesday...Most of the 00z run models continue to suggest
Monday as the break in the high heat pattern, as the upstream llvl
cool front sags south through the area and brunt of flattening
thermal ridge squeezes off to the southeast. Rounds of active storms
clusters will probably be the result of this process Monday,
especially in the afternoon and evening with high buoyancy even with
moderate shear driving a severe storm potential. Also some signs of
a high precipital water(PWAT) feed up off the western Gulf of 1.8 to
over 2 inches up into the lift of a passing short wave trof on
northern periphery of flattening upper ridge for a heavy rainfall
threat. Before the storms and associated cloud debris take off,
portions of the CWA (especially the south half) may again warm up
into the heat advisory criteria realm, and thus there may be the
eventual need for an extension of the ongoing headline. But with
uncertainty of cloud cover and precip timing on Monday, that
decision may not be made until the last minute Sunday afternoon or
evening. Jumping to Tuesday, may be a post-frontal and cooler day
with lingering showers and some thunderstorms acrs the southern half
of the CWA especially during the morning. Ongoing northeasterly
boundary layer flow will look to shunt he boundary far enough to the
south that Tuesday night could be mainly dry.
Wednesday through next Friday...Longer range indications suggest
both sfc and upper ridging may keep the region mainly dry until
central plains troffiness and increasing warm air advection(WAA)
return flow bring precip chances back toward the local area by late
Thursday and into Friday. Temperatures look to be around normal for
this time of the year through mid to late next week. ..12..

VFR conditions to continue today through Sunday morning. A
southerly breeze this morning of 8-12 KTs will become southwest
and gust near 20 kts by this afternoon. A low chance for an
isolated pop-up shower or thunderstorm this afternoon, but too
low of coverage and potential to include in any TAF at this time.

On the Wapsi near De Witt, moderate flooding is ongoing and still
expected to continue at that level well into next week.
River Flood Watches continue for portions of the lower Iowa River at
Wapello and Oakville, possibly breaching the flood stage early next
week as higher flow gets routed down through those areas. Will have
to watch for locally heavy rainfall on Monday and Monday night on
top of the crests to possibly drive them higher, and thus more
confidence to upgrade to a warning.
On the Mississippi River...routed flow and tributary input from the
Iowa River to keep LD 18 at Gladstone and Burlington around action
stage through at least mid next week. ..12..
