Issued at 322 AM CDT Sun May 6 2018 06Z surface data suggests a weak low south southeast of KDEH. The low was along a weak boundary that ran from South Dakota into northern Indiana. Dew points were in the 30s and 40s north of the boundary with 50s from the Ohio Valley into the central Plains on south. && .SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight) ISSUED AT 322 AM CDT Sun May 6 2018 A weak upper level disturbance was generating showers/sprinkles across the area. This light precipitation will continue moving east through sunrise with dissipation expected later this morning. This afternoon, there are questions regarding whether or not any additional convection will develop. The weak boundary dropping into the area might provide just enough lift to help generate some showers and a couple of thunderstorms across the far south and east areas. A lake induced boundary east of the Mississippi this afternoon might make the mid to late afternoon hours interesting. RAP trends suggest the possibility of some very brief funnel clouds being induced as the updraft generating the diurnal clouds gets stretched. Tonight, quiet, dry and cool conditions will be seen across the area as high pressure builds into the Great Lakes. .LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday) ISSUED AT 322 AM CDT Sun May 6 2018 Dry and mild conditions will start out the workweek. The pattern then becomes more active from mid week onward, with periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms. There will also be the likelihood of warmer temperatures and returning humidity by the weekend, over at least portions of the forecast area. Monday and Tuesday, a mild and dry airmass from the departing high over the Great Lakes will provide mostly clear skies with highs in the 70s and overnight lows in the 40s. Tuesday night through Wednesday night, there is above average model consensus with the timing and track of an upper level trough moving through the region, triggering widespread showers and thunderstorms. Elevated warm advection and instability may bring thunderstorms into especially the south by late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. South winds and moisture return will hold mins in the 50s. During the day, a wave of showers and thunderstorms will likely lift through with the warm front and upper level lift in the morning and pops are now in the likely category. Additional rounds of at least scattered storms are then expected in the afternoon and evening ahead of the surface cold front. Moisture return from the Gulf will lead to event total QPF in of .25 to .5 range and may contribute to a potential for strong storms in the south, where instability and shear will be greatest. Issued at 1228 PM CDT Sat May 5 2018 Mississippi River River flood warnings continue at all sites with the exception of Keokuk (LD19) where a watch remains in effect. Moderate flooding is forecast at most sites as a significant amount of run-off from snowmelt and heavy rains across Minnesota and Wisconsin routes downstream. There is potential for increases in crest forecasts into the Major category, especially at New Boston, Keithsburg, Gladstone, and Burlington, possibly at other sites as well. Severe weather is not expected. Flooding is expected along the Mississippi River today through next week. Please see the latest Flood Statements and Flood Warnings for details. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY There is a chance of thunderstorms Tuesday night through Wednesday. The potential for severe weather appears low at this time. Thursday night through Saturday, several rounds of thunderstorms are possible across the outlook area. It is too soon to determine the potential for severe weather.
