Frontal boundary lifting through the area at this time with
showers and storms along and north of it. Also some isolated areas
of fog noted in parts of east central IA. Temps in low to mid 50s
north of boundary, with mid to upper 60s south.

Warm front will lift through the area this morning with rain
chances gradually diminishing/ending across the southeast two
thirds of the CWA. Scattered chances will continue across the NW
third or so where we've extended the flash flood watch for through
18Z Tuesday. Despite more scattered nature of storms today, they
will still be good rain-producers. In addition to the heavy rain
threat (and potential flooding), there is also a Marginal risk for
an isolated strong to severe storm generally NW of a line from
Keosauqua to Galena as low level shear remains favorable for storm
rotation. The main threats are damaging winds and a brief weak
tornado. The timing would be mid afternoon into the evening. Showers
and storms will continue into tonight, mainly across areas west
of the Mississippi. Summer-like warmth will be common today, with
highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s. It will be humid as well with dew
points in the 60s. Just another sign indicative of a heavy
rainfall scenario.

The warm and humid conditions will continue Tuesday with shower
and thunderstorm chances increasing again across the entire area
as a surface low moves across Iowa. Highs once again will be in
the 80s, with high humidity levels too.
Late Tuesday afternoon and night a cold front will finally start
to move through the area. This will increase rain chances, with
the bulk of the rainfall; on the order of 0.75 to 1.25 inches;
falling Tuesday evening into mid morning Wed. A flash flood watch
may need to be expanded/extended into midday Wed for parts of the
area. Some of the storms could be strong to severe Tuesday
afternoon and night as shear remains strong, with damaging winds
the main threat. SPC has areas along and west of the Mississippi
in a Slight Risk area. This is expected to come through mainly as
a squall line, but could have embedded stronger individual cells.
In addition to the wind threat, an isolated tornado can not be
ruled out.
Precip gradually exits the area Wednesday as the strong cold
front pushes east across the cwa. This will finally bring an end
to the rainy pattern and usher in much colder and drier air into
the area. Highs Wednesday will be in the upper 50s and 60s.
Much colder conditions are expected Thursday through Sunday with
highs in the upper 40s and 50s.
A quick moving clipper system arrives mid/late Friday morning
which should bring rain to the area. It should exit quickly by
late Friday afternoon. At this time it should be dry across the
area early Friday morning, when temperatures are expected to drop
into the 30s. More rain is expected for Saturday, with dry
conditions Sunday into next Monday.

MVFR to some lingering IFR CIGs and showers with some embedded
thunder to impact the CID and possibly the DBQ terminals through
this evening, while MVFR to VFR CIGs occur further to the east of
the action zone acrs the rest of the area well into tonight.
South to southeast winds of 8-13 KTS in general, with some late
night decrease possible especially at CID. This may make for
marginal low level wind shear at that site toward dawn if 2000 ft
winds can increase to 40 KTS from the southwest.

Forecasts for heavy rain in central Iowa to northeast Iowa are
continuing, and have not changed much. However, as this event
falls into the 48hr QPF that is used to produce river forecasts.
With moderate to heavy rain amounts falling last night, especially
over northeast Iowa the new rain is combining with the QPF to
produce crests that are much higher than issued yesterday. This is
due to the process, not because the heavy rain isn't already
forecast.
For our rivers, the Cedar River is now forecast to see greatly
increasing flows by day 2, resulting in a steady rise to 19.7
feet at Cedar Rapids, which is major. The category of major is
highly confident, though the exact crest value may change as the
we see the rain accumulate / run off.
The same is confidence on a significant rise is true for routed water
on the Wapsipinicon, Des Moines, Skunk, and Iowa basins. For the
Iowa, outflow from Coralville Dam is around 10-11Kcfs. This
helping rise Iowa City back to minor flood today, and with some
COE variation, it will rise and fall over flood stage the next
several days. Just downstream, the English River, which has had
it's stage and flow confirmed, is near crest, about 2 feet over
major flood status. This is combining with the Iowa River, to
bring a continued rise well above major flood near Lone Tree. That
Lone Tree major flood status should not drop much for the next
5-6 days. This will continue to bring major flooding down through
the lower Iowa basin this week.
With all tributaries seeing high level, rises, and in many case
major river flooding, and even the upstream portions of the
Mississippi upstream seeing heavy rainfall tonight through
Tuesday night, the big river will see some very significant rises
as well. For now, though minor flooding may be possible from
Dubuque through Bellevue, the portions most likely to flood are
from Camanche downstream. With the major flooding on the
Wapsipinicon and Rock, with high water from the Turkey and
Maquoketa, the main stem Mississippi is forecast to reach major
flood status from Rock Island, downstream. This resulted in
increase flood forecasts downstream where sites were already
forecast to reach major flood as well.
