This will lead to clearing skies along with cold advection with little threat of precipitation overnight. The pleasant conditions will persist into Wednesday as the ridge axis passes through the state with seasonably cool highs in the low to mid 60s. .LONG TERM.../Wednesday night through Tuesday/ Issued at 326 PM CDT Tue Sep 25 2018 Next upper trof swings through the upper Midwest on Thursday with a weak cold front passing through the state. Moisture will be limited with the frontal passage but an isolated shower remains possible in the far north closest to the stronger mid level forcing. The front will slip just south of the state on Friday as another shortwave races southeast into the Midwest in the broad northwest flow. Isentropic lift will increase across the state late Thursday night into Friday with clouds spreading across Iowa. GFS has become much drier with this system as drier air deepens more quickly across the state with the surface ridge nudging southward faster. Meanwhile, the Euro remains consistent with light rain across Iowa during the day before departing rapidly southeast in the evening. Beyond this timeframe, GFS remains very bullish with active weather into next week as a warm front meanders in the vicinity of Iowa. This would produce nearly a daily threat of storms somewhere in Iowa with locally heavy rainfall possible. Euro is not as bullish on developing a western trof and maintains a flatter flow until becoming predominately northwest flow by the middle to the end of next week. This solution would provide some active weather late this weekend into early next week but then push the front to the south with much cooler air by the end of the week.
