However, increased confidence that the heaviest rainfall to stay in Missouri. Then, a much welcomed dry and mild period Saturday into next week. Today into Saturday...large surface high pressure builds into the upper Mississippi River Valley and Northern Plains and looks to remain a strong hold over the weather pattern through the weekend. The latest hires models continue to trickle light rain over the southeast throughout the day today with some periodic weak theta-e advection in this area. The remnants of Gordon continue to migrate northward through Missouri today into tonight. However, confident the aforementioned high pressure will be strong enough to hold off the remnants to southern Iowa into northern Missouri. The ECMWF is slightly further north with the heavy precipitation band (maybe as far north as Hwy 34) on Friday than the GFS. But with the decent dry advection from the surface high and very weak forcing from Gordon, low confidence much widespread heavy rain that far north and it's likely to remain along the Iowa/Missouri border or even just in Missouri. The warm layer cloud depths are as high as 4000 meters, precipitable water values over 2", but again, souther Iowa lacks any significant forcing. Moisture transport vectors remain weak and there is Little to no CAPE available on Friday, so unfortunately the location that could really use some of this rain is looking like it may miss out. At any rate, confidence is high with the lack of any flash flood potential over the south tonight into Friday. Saturday through Wednesday...The large surface high pressure remains planted over the region through the weekend and into next week. The main concern during this time frame looks to be temperatures. Cooler temperatures anticipated over the weekend but then gradually warm up by Monday into the middle part of next week. && .AVIATION.../For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Friday morning/ Issued at 526 AM CDT Thu Sep 6 2018 OTM and DSM only TAF sites to see IFR/MVFR ceilings today into tonight with DSM seeing some relief in the MVFR ceilings by midday today.
