.Widespread and prolonged excessive rainfall of 4 to 5 inches has
occurred in the Buckner Creek basin. An additional 1 to 3 inches
is forecast through Tuesday. This is expected to push the Buckner
Creek into minor flood stage

* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
early tomorrow.
* Impact...At 19.0 feet...Prepare for first terrace overflows up to 3
feet along the banks of the Buckner Creek. Move livestock away from
the main channel. The Creekside Cemetery Road along Buckner Creek
north of Gray will become flooded at a stage of 19 feet. The cities
of Jetmore and Hanston are not in any immediate danger from this
forecasted rise along Buckner Creek.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Dodge City KS 1200 PM CDT Mon Oct 8 2018 ...updated aviation... .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) Issued at 351 AM CDT Mon Oct 8 2018 Heavy rainfall will be the main concern over the next few days. As of 08z the 24 hour rainfall totals from the Dodge City radar indicated two areas of heavy rainfall occurred across our county warning area. One was located north of Dodge City in Hodgeman, Ness, and Trego counties where the radar estimated that 2 to 3 inches of rain had fallen since Sunday. The second area was across south central Kansas around Pratt and Medicine lodge where rainfall totals ranged from 2 to 3 inches also. Both areas can expect additional rainfall today through Tuesday however the latest models continue to focus the best chance for the steadier and heavier rainfall over the next 36 hours across central Kansas. Models this morning were in decent agreement in focusing the highest rainfall totals this morning over south central Kansas were warm air advection was occurring north of a warm front that was located across western Oklahoma. Another round of heavier rainfall is expected in the same general area late today and tonight as an upper level disturbance approaches from the southwest. In this areas an additional 2 to 4 inches of rainfall is likely to occur with locally higher amounts possible. A flood watch is currently in effect for this area so at this time there are no plans to expand this watch further west. Even though we will not expand the watch further west to include the area of heavy rainfall north of Dodge City...this area could still experience some minor water issues. Ponding of water on roadways and poor drainage areas across Hodgeman, Ness, and Trego county may occur today from the additional rainfall expected. A few strong to marginally severe thunderstorms will also be possible late today along a surface boundary that if forecast to be located somewhere in southwest Kansas. Given the current precipitation early this morning along with the expected convection through late day am currently favoring the furthest south solution of this boundary which would place the chance for these stronger storms, should they develop, near or south of the Oklahoma border. .LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Sunday) Issued at 351 AM CDT Mon Oct 8 2018 Showers and thunderstorms will continue on Tuesday as an upper level trough begins to lift northeast across the Western High Plains, and the surface cold front moves south into Oklahoma. the rain will tapers off Tuesday night as this upper wave passes and skies will begin to clear. Temperatures across western Kansas are expected to fall back into the 30s by early Wednesday morning. The potential exists for lows near 32 degrees early Wednesday morning west and north of the Garden City area. Frost and near freezing temperatures will be a concern for many across southwest and west central Kansas. Fall like temperatures can be expected across all of western Kansas mid to late week. Highs from Wednesday to Friday will be in the 55 to 65 degree range and lows Wednesday night in the mid 30s to around 45. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Tuesday afternoon) Issued at 1200 PM CDT Mon Oct 8 2018 Poor aviation conditions through entire TAF pd. IFR/LIFR through period in association with moderate ra, occasional ts. Round will continue this morning and afternoon with a possible brief lull. Cannot rule out that additional storms developing will continue reduced flight conditions. Another round of showers with occasional ts is expected through the overnight as main low moves north across the entire region. && .HYDROLOGY... Issued at 351 AM CDT Mon Oct 8 2018 Warm air advection north of a surface boundary in western Oklahoma early this morning will result in a period of widespread showers and thunderstorms across south central and portions of southwest Kansas. The rain may be heavy at times and produce rainfall rates of one inch an hour or greater. These thunderstorms will taper off by late morning but another round of thunderstorms can be expected late day and overnight as an upper level disturbance approaches from the southwest. Given the moisture and lift forecast early this evening ahead of this next upper level wave it once again appears that widespread showers and thunderstorms will be possible. The area most favorable for this next round of steady precipitation will be east and south of Dodge City. The rain late today and tonight will be heavy at times. These storms may also move over the same areas where the thunderstorms from earlier in the day occurred. The additional rainfall tonight is currently expected to range from from 2 to 4 inches. Given that this rainfall will be occurring over areas where the ground is already saturated from the previous rainfall there is a high chance for some flooding issues. A flood watch is currently in effect today and Tuesday for areas along and east of highway 183. This flood watch covers the locations where there is a high chance for flooding issues late today and tonight. Even though a flood watch is not in effect today for locations further west there is still a chance for some minor water issues due to the expected brief periods of heavier rainfall today and tonight.
