Quick update to cancel the High Wind Warnings for I-80 Summit,
Arlington and South Laramie Range Foothills early this evening.
Sustained west winds have diminished to 25 to 35 mph with gusts
to around 50 mph early this evening. The threat for high winds
has ended for these areas.

A High Wind Warning remains in effect this afternoon for the ARL &
VDW areas, along with the South Laramie Range Foothills as several
wind gusts around 55-65 MPH have been observed today. Did not make
any changes to the expiration time, as developing inversions could
limit higher gust potential overnight. However, models continue to
show 45 knot flow at H7-H8 over the wind prone areas through about
15z Thu w/ H7 CAG-CPR gradients near 50 meters. The next shift may
need to look into extending this headline overnight. Near critical
fire weather conditions continue for portions of FWZ 303, 310, and
313, but increasing low-level moisture is keeping RH values on the
marginal side. Otherwise, no impactful weather is expected through
Thursday afternoon. One more mild day for Thursday with widespread
highs in the low/mid 50s.

Widespread accumulating snowfall appears likely for Thursday night
and Friday across southeast Wyo and the western Neb Panhandle. All
models depict excellent jet positioning, along with strong low-lvl
frontogenesis and moist upslope flow along and east of the Laramie
Range. At this time, the most favored areas for heavy snowfall are
expected to be in the vicinity of the Pine Ridge (east central Wyo
and the northern Neb Panhandle), along the Laramie Range in south-
east Wyoming, and in the Snowy/Sierra Madre Mountain Ranges. Still
have some questions with the I-80 corridor, as the latest NAM does
show a significant dry slot which leads to virtually no QPF across
Laramie County while the GFS shows QPF around 0.6 inch. Attm, tend
to favor these lower amounts as the ECMWF shows some hints of this
dry slot as well. Other areas along/east of the Laramie Range look
good for a solid Winter Weather Advisory event, but do not need to
issue these quite yet as the onset of snow is still about 24 hours
away. Also issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Snowy/Sierra Madres
for Thu night/Fri, as favorable orographics & good instability may
lead to some localized totals over 12 inches especially above 9000
feet elevation. A bit of a tricky snow forecast here, as we should
see the Sierra Madres favored early in the event (Thu Night) prior
to the wind shift with the cold front favoring the Snowies by late
Friday morning.
