Light to moderate snow is ongoing early this AM from far southeast
WY into the southern NE Panhandle. This is in response to a rather
impressive 140-150 knot H25 jet interacting w/an arctic cold front
stalled along the I-80 corridor, likely contributing to strong low
to mid level frontogenesis. The potential still exists for narrow/
instability-driven bands, but overall trends in regional radar and
satellite imagery suggest decreasing coverage & intensity. Overall
dynamic support diminishes considerably after 12z along w/moisture
profiles on GFS/NAM soundings. That said, do not think we will see
much more in the way of accumulations. Snowfall reports so far are
sub-advisory around 2 inches, and overall road impacts do not seem
significant per area webcams. Opted against any Winter Wx products
and will focus on slick/snow covered roads with our morning Social
Media package.
Strong winds are possible again in the southeast WY wind corridors
from late tonight through Friday. H7 CAG-CPR gradients between 55-
65 meters, coupled with a ribbon of 50+ knot flow aloft and strong
subsidence should yield the potential for 60 MPH wind gusts in the
09z Fri to 00z Sat time frame. We issued a High Wind Watch for the
Arlington/Elk Mountain area, where our confidence is highest right
now based on stronger flow aloft. It's possible for the I80 Summit
to be included as well with later updates.
A fast-moving short wave swings across the CWA on Friday night and
Saturday morning, w/ some snow possible although the mountains are
expected to see the highest chances this period. It appears likely
that Winter Storm highlights of some kind will be required for the
Snowy and Sierra Madres this weekend.
.LONG TERM...(Saturday Night through Wednesday)

An active pattern will be in place this weekend into early next
week. The first in a series of shortwaves is progged to move
through Saturday night into Sunday morning across areas mainly
east of the Laramie Range in response to a digging trof in the
northern Plains. Ahead of this front, it will most likely become
quite windy across the wind prone areas of Arlington, Bordeaux and
possibly the Summit on Saturday night, due to some pretty tight
gradients setting up just ahead of the front. We are still pretty
confident that a cold front is expected to surge through areas
east of the Laramie Range Saturday night into Sunday morning, but
we are still not confident on how much moisture will be
associated with this front to produce snowfall. The ECMWF/GEM are
continuing to fluctuate on this potential with the GFS/SREF having
the most confidence. At this point, it appears like the best
chance of snow will be across areas along and north of the Pine
Ridge where the 700-600mb frontogenesis may be a bit better.
The next shortwave is progged to push from the northern Rockies
Sunday night into the northern Plains on Monday. This shortwave
also looks like it will favor another high wind event over the
wind prone areas on Sunday night with the next cold front surging
through the Wyoming and Nebraska Plains Sunday night and Monday.
Once again, we are not confident on the snowfall potential with
this front, due to the moisture variability. Meanwhile, the upper
level ridge is expected to start nosing into the region around mid
week which should provide a gradual warming trend with limited
chances of precipitation.

Recent radar and surface obs indicated that snowfall was gradually
decreasing south of a Chugwater WY to Bridgeport NE line this morning.
Occasional MVFR-IFR CIGS at KCDR and KSNY will improve to VFR early this
afternoon. Elsewhere, VFR will prevail. Surface winds will be light
west to northwest through the afternoon, then backing to the south and
southwest this evening. It will become breezy after midnight with gusts
of 20-30 kt at KLAR and KRWL. Stronger winds will be possible between
KLAR and KRWL.
