A weak disturbance will sweep east of the area today. A new
storm system will move through the region late tonight and
Wednesday. After a brief visit from high pressure Thursday,
several weak systems will keep us unsettled from Friday through
the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...

A fast moving low amplitude wave aloft will continue to move
east of the area this afternoon. Radar is showing rapidly
diminishing returns with some lingering light snow at BFD.
While improving conditions are expected overall, a fair amount
of lake strato-cu will plague western and northern sections
while the southeast sees skies clearing for sunshine. Scattered
flurries are possible over the Allegheny Plateau.

Max temps should range from the mid 20s over the northwest
mountains, to the upper 30s across the Lower Susq Valley.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...
Latest short to medium range guidance in better agreement with
details of a moderate QPF event for Wednesday, most of it
falling as frozen or a mixture of freezing and frozen

hour throughout central PA, with most areas seeing snow break
out overnight or in the pre dawn hours, with a changeover to

Laurel Highlands (warning criteria is 0.25" or more), and given
at least 50% confidence, have expanded Winter Storm Watch into
the Laurel Highlands for the icing potential, which will come on
the heels of 2 to locally 5 inches of snow. Farther east, 1 to 3
inches of snow are expected from the South Central Mountains
through the lower Susq River Valley before a transition to sleet
and freezing rain and then likely plain rain by Wednesday
afternoon. A longer period of freezing rain and sleet is likely
across the Ridge and Valley region, which should see 3 to as
much as 5 inches of snow before mixing and changing to sleet and
freezing rain. Areas along and north of I80 will be
predominately snow, and 6" or more possible, and Winter Storm
Watch for 6"+ remains in effect.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
The storm winds down by Wednesday evening, and behind it a
modified arctic airmass will enter the region under broad upper
cyclonic flow. Below normal temperatures will return while we
become vulnerable to weak shortwaves rippling through the
pattern aloft into next weekend.

.AVIATION /16Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...

Westerly flow is helping to keep MVFR ceilings over my western
and central terminals with VFR over the Susq Valley flying
area.

MVFR/VFR will prevail for the remainder of today into early
tonight as weak high pressure migrates eastward across the
lower Great Lakes into New England.

Expect snow and mixed precipitation to quickly overspread the
airspace from southwest to northeast Wednesday morning with high
confidence in widespread MVFR to IFR.

Thu...Gusty winds/snow showers. MVFR to VFR.

Fri...Snow likely over northern 1/3.
