.SYNOPSIS...
A ridge of high pressure will nudge east into the Ohio valley
Monday into Tuesday. A weak area of low pressure will move
southeast into Lake Superior by Tuesday afternoon where it will
begin to deepen and move east across the central lakes
Wednesday. This will force a cold front across the area
Wednesday evening. High pressure will begin to build back in
from the west Thursday into Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Lake effect snow band is moving slowly south allowing a series
of multiple bands to develop across northeast Ohio and northwest
Pennsylvania. Visibilities are dropping to around a half mile in
the heavier snow bands and at times down to a quarter mile or
less. Will continue to maintain the winter weather advisory for
the southern portions of Erie county.

Wind chill values have increased due to warmer temperatures
enough to go ahead and let the wind chill advisory to expire.

Previous discussion...
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for inland Erie County
PA for this morning through tonight. General accumulations of 4
to 7 inches with isolated amounts to 9 inches in the typically
favored locations are expected. Northwest flow early this
morning will become westerly later this morning. This westerly
flow is expected to continue through today before becoming a bit
more northwest this evening into early tonight. This will favor
the heaviest snow falling across inland Erie County PA with
sub-advisory amounts (3-6 inches over 24 hours) falling across
portions of Lake, northern Geauga, northern Ashtabula, and
northern Crawford Counties. The heaviest snow is expected from
late this morning through this afternoon. As we head into late
tonight/early Tuesday morning the winds will back to the
southwest or west southwest, bringing an end to the lake effect
as it is forced back out over the lake.

It is possible other areas may need an advisory, primarily areas
along the Lake/Geauga County border and into northern Ashtabula,
but with the bands expected to move around throughout the day,
there is not enough confidence to issue any additional headlines
at this time.

Can't completely rule out a flurry across northwest Ohio this
afternoon as the back side of a trough moves through. However,
with the downsloping that will be occurring out of Michigan, the
odds are small and no flurry of any consequence is expected.

Outside of the lake-effect the main story will continue to be
the frigid temperatures. Wind chills this morning will range
from -5 to -10 degrees in the primary Snowbelt and from -10
to -20 degrees elsewhere. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in
effect for areas outside the Primary Snowbelt until noon today.
Highs this afternoon will struggle to make it out of the single
digits across western areas and will barely make the low 10s
elsewhere.

Another Wind Chill Advisory will be needed for tonight as low
temperatures will range from -6 in the southwest to +10 along
the Erie County PA lakeshore. West winds around 10 mph will make
for wind chill values ranging from -22F in the southwest to -5
in the northeast. Highs on Tuesday will be perhaps a couple
degrees warmer than today.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
The next cold front is due on Wednesday. There remains some timing
differences. The models deepen the trough aloft and it really may be
two fronts or a prefrontal trough followed by the front. In any
case, it will be breezy ahead of the front on Wednesday. High clouds
will increase quickly but the low level moisture does not seem to
increase until the upward motion associated with the front arrives
later in the day. High temperatures will depend on the timing of the
front. Despite the brisk southwest flow, it appears as though
temperatures may not get above 20F.

Lake effect snow will likely return after the frontal passage and
wind shift on Wednesday night. The air mass will be very cold but
dry. The lake snow will persist into Friday as the trough aloft
deepens in response to the system off the east coast. The long
duration of lake effect could result in gradual accumulations but
amounts will likely remain relatively modest except where the Lake
Huron Fetch is involved. Lake Erie will likely have a lot of ice on
the western and central basin by Friday. High temps late in the week
will be lucky to get out of the single digits with lows below zero
in most areas away from the lake/lake effect.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Heights will rise over the weekend, rebounding as the deep east
coast trough lifts out. Ridging will increase across the southeast
states ahead of the next progressive trough aloft. The ECMWF is
slower with the next trough allowing for a warm up, especially along
the east coast by Monday. The GFS and CMC and ensembles are faster
and the consensus is for the next cold front to be through the area
by the end of the weekend. The air mass will likely be modified
Pacific for a time early next week but not sure that temperatures
will recover to normal. Nonetheless, some light at the end of the
tunnel for a relaxing of the cold, if at least for a day or two.

.AVIATION /18Z Monday THROUGH Saturday/...
Lake effect snow band that developed from west to east across
northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania this morning has
shifted slightly south into the forecast area. The band is
evolving into multiple bands. Some lake snow is even extending
off Lake Michigan into northwest Ohio and affecting the Toledo
area. The snow is expected to lift back north very slowly
tonight and gradually weaken as the inversion drops down and
drier air works its way into the local area. Winds will be on
the increase late tonight into tomorrow afternoon to 15 to 25
knots with briefly higher gusts.

OUTLOOK...Non-VFR possible Wednesday night, lingering across
northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania Thursday through
Friday and possibly Saturday.

.MARINE...
Another weak reinforcing cold front will cross Lake Erie this
morning and winds will pick up again from the west. Small craft
advisories will go into effect this morning and freezing spray will
be an issue with the increased winds and higher waves. Winds will
back to southwest on Tuesday ahead of the next front and small craft
advisories will remain in effect through at least Wednesday morning.
The next cold front will drop across the lake later Wednesday and
winds will veer northwest. The ice modelers tell us that much of the
central basin of the lake may be ice covered by Thursday night.

Multiple lake effect snow bands will continue to affect the whole
snowbelt area the rest of the afternoon producing visibilities
below a half a mile at times. Additional accumulation during the
afternoon should range from a dusting to 2 to 4 inches in favored
higher terrain areas of the snowbelt east of Cleveland into
Northwest Pennsylvania. Many roadways will be snow covered and
slippery.
