.SYNOPSIS...
A deepening area of low pressure will lift north into Canada
tonight. As this feature lifts further north winds will
gradually lessen. High pressure will build in from the west
Wednesday into Thursday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Winds are slowly diminishing with time as surface low pressure
system slowly pulls out to the northeast. This trend will
continue through the evening hours into tonight. Some gusts will
still occur near the lakeshore where the strongest winds remain.
Will continue with the wind advisory where it is currently in
effect from Lorain County east along the lakeshore. Otherwise,
just some clouds expected across the area with decreasing
coverage through the night. Only minor hourly temperature and
dewpoint temperatures with this update.
Original Discussion...
Upper level trough was centered over the upper lakes with a
deepening surface low moving over Lake Huron. A strong upper
level jet with winds over 100kt has pushed east into NY and so
had the upper level support. Surface temperatures remain in the
50s as the colder air lags behind the cold front. This is
supporting mixing which is brining strong wind gusts around 35
to 45 mph to the surface. Low level temperatures will cool
overnight with H8 temperatures dropping from +8C earlier this
morning to 0C by daybreak Wednesday. As the surface low moves
north overnight the wrap around moisture will be reduced over
the region. Can't rule out a few light rain showers/sprinkles
this evening, but not anticipating accumulating rain. Winds will
lessen during this time as well due to a relaxing gradient but
should keep the boundary layer mixed. Temperatures will cool
into the upper 30s overnight for much of the region except along
the lakeshore where warmer lake temperatures and stronger winds
will be present. A secondary shortwave currently developing
over Minnesota will move towards the lower lakes by Wednesday
morning, however with the parent low lifting north it should
wash out and shouldn't support any local showers. Meanwhile, the
cooler temperatures aloft will support some modest lake induced
cape for Wednesday and Wednesday Night. Flow will support
mostly offshore showers, but as that trough skirts by to the
north there could be some brief veering to the west. Therefore
can't rule out some showers over Erie County PA. Otherwise
looking at a cooler day with highs in the 40s and a WSW light
breeze. As high pressure builds in at the surface winds will
lessen and we could see some sheltered areas cool quickly
Wednesday night. Temperatures will likely fall below freezing
for most of the area where clouds are not present.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
A ridge of high pressure will be over the forecast area on Thursday.
On Thursday night, the models show the development of an
inverted trough over the Ohio Valley. Eventually a surface low
will develop over eastern Ohio by 12Z on Friday. This surface
low will bring precipitation over most of the forecast area
during the day on Friday before exiting to the northeast Friday
night. Precipitation type with this system is interesting. 850mb
temperatures are in the - 2 to -4 range for the I-71 corridor
and west. The 12Z run of the GFS is slightly warmer than the
previous run. While the trend is warming, I have concerns
regarding precipitation type on Friday. The 1000-850mb thickness
appears warm for snow but Bufkit soundings are inconclusive
giving both a rain and snow mix. At this point, I will keep a
mix of rain and snow showers over the forecast area until the
forecast becomes more clear. There is a higher probability for
more of a snow mix in North Central and Northwest Ohio as these
areas our on the west side of the storm in the colder air. On
Friday Night and Saturday, cold air advection behind the surface
low will bring 850mb temperatures in the -8 to -10 range. This
should be sufficient to bring Lake Effect Snow showers to the
traditional snow belt areas. Model soundings indicate a moist
low level environment with inversion heights well above 8kft.
The flow appears to be 290 to 300 which would favor the
traditional snowbelt areas.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Surface high pressure will continue to shift east out of the
area as a cold front begins moving east toward Ohio on Sunday
morning. Lingering lake effect snow will be possible Saturday
evening into early Sunday morning. The wind direction looks
favorable for mainly the snow belt in eastern Ohio and northwest
PA...however models do indicate at least a few hours where lake
effect may impact areas just west of Cleveland into eastern
Lorain county. We will continue to watch this carefully over the
next few days. Either way...this weekend does have the
potential to be the first lake effect snow event of the season.
A brief period of dry weather will be present across much of the
area late Sunday morning into Sunday evening before a cold front
approaches western Ohio on Monday morning. Abundant gulf of Mexico
moisture will move north ahead of the cold front Monday into
Tuesday. Widespread precipitation is expected Monday and Tuesday
morning...beginning as a rain/snow mix...transitioning to snow
overnight. By Tuesday morning...the cold front will have moved out
of the region with an upper low moving quickly southeast toward
Ohio. This will keep lingering showers in the area and also give us
another shot of cold air.
What we can say with confidence regarding the extended forecast...it
will be cold. Temperatures over the weekend into early next week are
expected to be between 10 and 15 degrees below normal for the middle
of November. Daytime high temperatures on Sunday and Monday will
remain in the low 40s...while Tuesday will see cooler
temperatures...generally in the mid 30s...as that upper low moves
into the area.

.AVIATION /00Z Wednesday THROUGH Sunday/...
Aviation forecasts will be relatively quiet with a couple
exceptions. Winds are still quite gusty near the lakeshore but
will gradually diminish overnight. Expecting winds to increase
to between 15 and 25 knots tomorrow after sunrise. Some lower
clouds will slide in across the area from west to east as
surface trough tries to rotate into the region during the day
tomorrow. Not expecting any thing worse than VFR across much of
the area tomorrow but a possible shot at MVFR clouds expected
during the day at Toledo. Some residual lower MVFR clouds
possible tonight across the north.
OUTLOOK...Non-VFR Friday and continues across northeast Ohio and
northwest Pennsylvania Saturday.

.MARINE...
A strong surface low pressure system will move northeast of the
region overnight. With a strong pressure gradient and cold air
advection, near Gale Force winds can be expected particularly on the
eastern end of the lake. I will continue the Gale Warning through
this evening on the west and overnight in the east. With the strong
west to southwest winds, water levels on the western basin will fall
below critical navigational thresholds. Model forecasts indicated
low levels until near sunrise on Wednesday. I will continue the low
water advisory.
High pressure will briefly build over the lake on Wednesday and
Thursday. West to Northwest winds will weaken through the day on
Wednesday becoming light and somewhat variable on Thursday. Another
area of low pressure will approach the lake late Thursday night and
Friday. Winds will shift to the southeast and increase in intensity
in advance of this storm.
