.SYNOPSIS...
A strong cold front will push across the forecast area this
afternoon, kicking off rain showers and ushering in much colder
conditions. The rain will turn to snow across the snowbelt
overnight, with a light accumulation possible.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
A cold front extending from a low near james Bay, SW to near St
Louis, will push though this morning. A second. stronger front
across the Northern Lakes, will push through late this afternoon into
the evening. Expect showers to become widespread, especially in the
east, this afternoon. Waterspouts and thunderstorms are possible
this afternoon, as moderate to extreme instability develops over the
lake. Rain will gradually turn to snow after midnight tonight as
the 850mb temps plunge to -6c to -8c and surface temps drop to near
freezing. Continued the the 1 to 2 inch snow accumulation for the
snowbelt overnight, given the instability and the strong upper level
short wave that will move through this evening, High pressure
builds in Sunday chocking off the Lake Effect Sunday afternoon. As
far as temps, will see the coldest air of the season. Do not expect
temps to get out of the 40s on Sunday.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
A weak upper level ridge will build east across the area Sunday
night into Monday resulting in surface high pressure moving east
across the Ohio Valley. A trough of low pressure aloft will move
east across Canada with surface low pressure and a trailing cold
front. The front is progged to move east across the area Monday
evening. Another surface high will build southeast into the western
Great Lakes Tuesday night.
The forecast area will remain under the influence of the high
pressure Sunday night as southwest flow develops across the area.
Some residual lake effect rain/snow showers will persist in the
northeast Sunday night. Otherwise, the rest of the forecast area
will remain dry through the night. The flow will shift back around
to the west Monday into Monday night and some lake effect showers are
possible in the northeast and fair weather elsewhere. The cold
front will move east across the area Monday night and Tuesday
morning but will be limited in moisture and therefore will be
confined to the eastern portions of the area. At this time it
appears western and southern areas will remain dry Tuesday and
Tuesday night.
Forecast period will start off cool as cold pool over the area
Sunday night begins to retreat to the northeast. Temperatures will
begin to rebound Monday as slight warm air advection takes place in
the southwest flow. Similar temperatures expected for Monday night
and Tuesday but with cold air advection expected, temperatures will
drop back into the 30s Tuesday night.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Upper level ridge is progged to move fairly quickly east across the
area Wednesday through Thursday followed by a shortwave trough for
Friday. Surface high will dominate the local area Wednesday and
Thursday and then surface trough as a reflection of shortwave trough
and associated moisture will push into the local area for Friday.
Limited moisture will be associated with the trough axis so will
just go with a minimal chance or slight chance POPs on Friday.
Will keep temperatures in the low 50s each day and lows in the 30s
at night as cool air associated with the high pressure remains in
place during the forecast period.

.AVIATION /06Z Saturday THROUGH Wednesday/...
Cold front extends from Low near james Bay across NRN IL. MVFR
patchy IFR conditions ahead of the front with clearing behind
the front. The front will move across the forecast area this
afternoon. Expect showers in the east with potential for
thunderstorms over the lake. Winds will turn to the NW at 25-35
kts this evening behind the front. Potential for a light
accumulation of snow across the snowbelt Saturday night.
OUTLOOK...Non-VFR probable into Sunday, lingering at Erie
Sunday night. Brief non-VFR again Tuesday.

.MARINE...
Gale force winds will gradually diminish this morning across the
eastern half of the lake and therefore will go ahead and drop the
gale warning. Will need to issue small craft advisories for the lake
today and will continue it through Sunday evening. Winds will
increase again later this evening and will likely hit 30 knots with
a potential for just below gales. Winds will be shifting through
this forecast period from a southwest direction to a northwest
direction early in the week. Sustained winds will be at least 15
knots or greater through much of the period and then will decrease
to around 12 to 13 knots by Wednesday.
