  levels dipping to the critical level for safe shipping around 11
  am. The lowest levels will occur between 3 pm and 7 pm with 
  water levels 24 inches below the critical level which is 9 
  inches below the zero datum.

.SYNOPSIS...
A Deepening low pressure system over Iowa will track to lower
Michigan by Tuesday morning. A trailing cold front from the low
will sweep across the region late tonight and early Tuesday. The
low will continue to deepen and move away into Quebec by
Wednesday evening. Arctic high pressure will gradually build
into the upper Mississippi Valley and western Great Lakes as a
trough remains over the eastern lakes into Thursday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
The low pressure over Iowa is showing signs of deepening with
5mb pressure falls over the last few hours. This feature will
lift northeast tonight into lower Michigan by Tuesday morning.
The best energy with this system will occur between 07Z and 09Z
as it swings through the area overnight. Some isolated thunder
is possible, though with strong low level jet and warming aloft
the instability will be negligible. Concerned that some
elevated cells could strengthen enough to produce a few pockets
of strong damaging winds with momentum transfer. The low level
jet will increase after midnight especially along the Erie
lakeshore of northwest PA. Southeast winds at 925 mb will
increase to 40-45 knots range and some of this momentum will mix
to the surface. We will issue a wind advisory for Erie County
PA for late tonight and earlier Tuesday morning. The system will
also drop about a half inch of rainfall, not sufficient to
produce flooding but it could slow the recession of a few area
rivers. For Tuesday temperatures will be dropping during the day
as heights fall aloft, however not anticipating strong cold air
advection. Showers should clear out by early afternoon. Tuesday
night should be dry with temperatures in the upper 30s.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...

High pressure will be building northeast across the region
Wednesday. This will keep conditions dry across most of the area,
aside from some continued lake effect rain showers across far
northwest PA. Flow will be nearly shore parallel through the day, so
much of the activity may stay offshore. A weak front/trough will
cross the lake late Wednesday and will shift the flow to more
onshore, so have increased pops into the lake effect favored areas
of far NE OH and NW PA Wednesday night. This activity will continue
into Thursday before diminishing late Thursday as drier air works
into the region.

A strong northeast stream trough will dig southeast into the Great
Lakes by Friday morning. This energy is expected to phase will a
southern stream low/wave moving into the Ohio valley, bringing
widespread precip to the area by Friday. The ECMWF is faster than
the latest GFS with this system, and will average the timing of the
two for the forecast, ramping up pops after 06Z Friday and peaking
into midday. Precip type will be an issue with this system, which
should be cold enough to allow for at least a mix or mainly snow
during the nighttime hours, and mainly rain during the day. There
cloud be a dusting of snow for some higher elevation/colder areas
late Thursday night, but this would depend on the timing of the
system. Highs around 50 Wednesday will cool to the mid 40s Thursday
and only reaching the low 40s Friday.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Upper level zonal flow will dominate the region with surface high
pressure building east over the weekend. This will aide in a cooling
trend across the forecast area...with temperatures well below normal
over the weekend into early next week. The coldest day of the
forecast looks to be Saturday...with daytime high temperatures
generally in the mid 30s...around 20 degrees below normal for the
middle of November.

With cold air temperatures and Lake Erie water temperatures still
sitting in the mid 50s...lake effect snow will be possible over the
weekend. The best chance looks to be on Saturday...with little to no
directional or speed shear below the inversion. During the morning
hours the winds will generally come from the west north west...with
downtown Cleveland and even the western suburbs potentially
experiencing lake effect snow. Later on in the afternoon and into
Sunday morning...winds become more due west and then west
southwest...more favorable for the traditional snow belt...generally
east of Cleveland into western PA.

Snow amounts are still uncertain at this time and we will continue
to fine tune the details as the week progresses. Either way...we are
in for a quick transition from feeling like Fall to feeling like
Winter this weekend.

.AVIATION /18Z Monday THROUGH Saturday/...
Complicated forecast period with multiple systems impacting the
terminals. Initially some lingering MVFR conditions should lift
briefly this evening. This will be followed shortly thereafter
with a widespread IFR ceilings and rain starting around 06Z west
and 09Z east and continuing through daybreak at 12Z. Isolated
thunderstorms will be possible during that period. Rain will
clear from west to east with slowly improving ceilings. Winds
will strengthen to around 20-25kt with 35kt gusts at the surface
with 50kt at 4-5k feet. MVFR ceilings will be likely for most
of Tuesday.

OUTLOOK...Non-VFR Monday night through Tuesday night possibly
lingering through mid week. Non-VFR returns again on Friday.

.MARINE...
Strong low pressure will move through the central Lakes tomorrow,
bringing gales to most of Lake Erie. Have opted to upgrade to a gale
warning with high enough confidence in gales beginning early
Tuesday. The gale warning runs through 9 PM west of Avon, but gales
may subside several hours earlier west of the Islands, and the
warning may need to be cancelled early and a small craft advisory
will be hoisted for the nearshore areas. There is also the potential
for a low water advisory across the western basin, however given the
marginal gales/short duration and latest GLERL water level
forecasts, will hold off on any low water headlines at this point.
Gales will subside across the entire lake by Wednesday morning, but
we could still see 20-30 kt winds persist through Wednesday evening.
Winds will subside Wednesday night as high pressure builds across
the lake, remaining light through Thursday.
