.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure over the Mid-Atlantic states will continue moving
east this evening as a cold front approaches from the northwest.
The cold front will cross the forecast area tomorrow before
stalling southeast of the area tomorrow night. Low pressure from
the Southern Plains will move northeast along the stalled front
on Thursday night into Friday. High pressure will then build
into the area for the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Only minor changes have been made. Will continue to monitor the
approach of the cold front and the showers/thunderstorms.
Previous Discussion...
High pressure over the Mid-Atlantic region will continue
drifting eastward tonight. On the back side of the high, a warm
front is moving north through the Great Lakes region, bringing
southerly flow and widespread cloud cover over the area. To the
west of that front, a cold front is approaching the area and
will cross the forecast area tomorrow before stalling southeast
of the area tomorrow night. This cold front is certainly well
supported aloft with a trough moving through the central United
States. Once the front stalls southeast of the area, several
waves of energy aloft will move along the front. All of this
will allow for persistent convection on Wednesday into Wednesday
night. There could be some slight waning in activity around dusk
on Wednesday night as some drier air from the north approaches
the front and the low level flow shifts around to the northeast.
The forecast area will have a gradient of moderate rain to the
southeast to completely dry to the northwest at some point on
Wednesday night and have tried to depict this as best as
possible in the forecast. Temperatures will be fairly close to
normal.
Will continue to punt on a potential flood watch for the
forecast area. While rainfall tomorrow through early Friday
(see short term below) will be between 1.5 to 3 inches, there
is still some uncertainty on where the heaviest axis will occur.
It could very well be across the far edge of the CWA. While the
final total QPF is high, the rates are fairly low so will be a
decision for the next forecast cycle.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
The cold front that moved through the region on Wednesday will
continue pushing slowly southeast. Abundant moisture from the
Gulf of Mexico will continue to stream into the region bringing
moderate to occasionally heavy rain through at least Thursday
evening. As the front continues to push east...steady rain will
turn more showery by Friday. Lingering showers will be present
into Saturday...mainly east of Cleveland.
The Weather Prediction Center has much of the area in either a
marginal risk or a slight risk of excessive rainfall from Wednesday
through Friday. When all is said and done...from tonight through
Friday morning...we are expecting upwards of 2.5 inches of rain
along the I-71 corridor from Richland County up into southern Medina
County. Elsewhere...expect generally between 1.5 and 2 inches of
rain...except across our far northwestern Counties...where only an
inch of rain is expected.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The next big fall system will be set to arrive for the first
half of next week as the next high amplitude trough moves across
the central Plains. Shortwave energy will emerge from the
trough and rotate up toward the Great Lakes region. Differences
exist on whether one of these lead shortwaves will bring rain
showers to the local area on Monday or if the precip will wait
until Tuesday with a stronger surface low tracking toward the
lower Great Lakes. Will split the difference and mention the
chance for shower Monday and increase it more so for Tuesday.
Temperatures through the period will sit close to seasonal
averages.

.AVIATION /06Z Wednesday THROUGH Sunday/...
Winds will continue to increase overnight both at the surface
and aloft ahead of a cold front extending across western
Michigan towards Chicago at 06Z. Will continue with a mention of
low level wind sheer at western and inland sites ahead of the
front with winds of 45-50 knots near 2000 feet. Surface winds
will increase between 10-13Z and should be able to remove the
low level wind sheer at that point.
Regional radars show a few showers filling in across Lake Erie,
with scattered showers developing elsewhere after 08Z. A few
thunderstorms have been ongoing upstream closer to the front and
will keep a mention of thunderstorms in a few of the western
terminals as the front approaches towards 10-13Z. Otherwise the
front will move southeast across the area between 13-22Z with a
wind shift to the west and eventually northwest. Rain will fill
in along the front, especially towards midday with ceilings
falling to IFR at all sites and visibilities falling to MVFR
and locally IFR. Precipitation will then tend to taper off
across the north this evening as the front settles into central
Ohio. Some drier air spreading into northern sites this evening
will allow ceilings to lift to VFR across NW Ohio while southern
sites remain IFR through the night. Rain will fill back in and
expand north late tonight with widespread rain continuing
through the day on Thursday.
OUTLOOK...Non-VFR Wednesday night through Friday in low clouds,
rain and fog.

.MARINE...
Southwest flow will ramp up tonight in advance of a cold front that
will move across the lake Wednesday morning. Southwest winds will
increase to 15 to 25 knots late tonight through Wednesday morning
before shifting to the west at 10-20 knots. A small craft advisory
has been issued from Cuyahoga County eastward from late tonight into
Wednesday afternoon.
The front will shift south of the area on Wednesday then lift back
north Thursday into Friday as a wave of low pressure tracks along
the front. Increased northeast winds on the lake Thursday night to
20-30 knots. Small Craft Advisories will be needed again and winds
could briefly approach Gale Force, depending on the exact track and
strength of the system. Water levels along the south shore and
western basin are expected to increase with the strong northeast
winds. Winds will shift to the west as the low continues north into
Canada Friday night.
