.SYNOPSIS...
A warm and humid air mass will linger across the region through
the rest of this weekend. A cold front is forecast to sweep
across southeast South Carolina and Georgia late Sunday night
into Monday morning. In the wake of the front, a drier air mass
is expected to build across the Southeast U.S. through early
next week. During the mid to late week, conditions are expected
to see gradual increases in deep moisture.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Some adjustments were made to afternoon/early evening pops per
latest high resolution data. The main change was the shift the
axis of highest gridded pops slightly south and delay the onset
of convection by about 1-2 hours. Latest data keeps the highest
risk for severe weather across Southeast Georgia, especially
along/south of the I-16 corridor. Dewpoints have been slower to
recover than expected, which could play a role later today as
temperatures rise. As is typical in such events, further
refinements will be made as the day progresses and shorter term
thermodynamic and mesoscale trends become more apparent.

The afternoon looks quite busy across the region with potential
severe weather. Residual convective debris cloudiness will
continue to steadily thin this morning as dewpoints slowly rise
in the wake of yesterday evening's convective activity. The
airmass across Southeast South Carolina and especially
Southeast Georgia is poised to recover quickly this morning as
strong insolation appears likely. Highs are once again on target
to top out in the lower to possibly mid 90s with 90 degree
temperatures potentially reaching the beaches and Downtown
Charleston where the sea breeze should remain fairly pinned to
the coast. Heat indices will generally top out in the upper 90s
to near 100 except east of the Highway 17 corridor where
dewpoints should pool into the lower-mid 70s as the sea breeze
meanders ever so slowly inland. Heat indices in this area should
top out in the 100-103 range with isolated pockets of 104-105.

Models are similar in showing a persistent mid-level trough
sharpening across the Southeast U.S. today with a pronounced
vorticity maximum digging south across eastern Georgia during
peak heating. Increasing DCVA ahead of this feature coupled
with moderate to strong instability and some difluence aloft
will support the develop of scattered to numerous shower tstms
mid-late afternoon. Activity will initially develop across
central and south-central Georgia along a weak surface trough
then expand/propagate northeast into Southeast Georgia and
eventually southern South Carolina as the afternoon progresses.
RAP/NAM shear profiles show 0-6km bulk shear increasing into the
15-25 kt range by late afternoon in response to the approaching
vorticity max which could support the development of a loosely
organized mesoscale convective system (MCS) as suggested by a
number of the CAMs' composite reflectivity products.

Modified sounding show moderate to locally strong instability
this afternoon as temperatures rise into the lower 90s and
dewpoints hold around 70. DCAPE as high as 1000-1300 J/kg and
HCAPE 800-1200 J/kg will support a risk for both damaging winds
and large hail. It remains to be seen exactly how organized
this afternoon's event will be given the marginal shear profiles,
but the potential is there for fairly robust early summer
severe weather event. The most favorable juxtaposition of
instability and shear looks to occur across Southeast Georgia
and extending into far southern South Carolina, mainly
along/south of a Rocky Ford-Yemassee-Kiawah Island line,
including the Savannah Metro Area. This is the area that will
have the greater probabilities for severe tstms. Farther north,
both shear and instability diminish considerably, especially
closer to the Orangeburg to Moncks Corner corridor. The severe
risk in the Charleston Metro Area will be highly conditional on
how convection evolves over Southeast Georgia as late
afternoon/early evening instability will be augmented by the
ultimate position of the sea breeze. Pops will range from 40%
across northern portions of Berkeley County to 50% in the
Charleston Metro Area to 60-70% elsewhere across southern South
Carolina into Southeast Georgia.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Tonight: Convection will gradually wind down and push off the
lower South Carolina coast during the evening hours. The speed
in which this occurs will be dependent on how organized
afternoon convection can become. Rain chances will diminish
through the night and debris cloudiness will steadily thin with
time. Could see some shallow ground fog and stratus develop
where winds drop off enough, but this is not expected to be
significant. Lows will range from the lower 70s inland to the
mid 70s at the beaches, but rain-cooled air could push lows down
even further.

Sunday: Short range guidance indicates that a mid level low is
forecast to pivot over the DelMarVa area as the negatively trough
axis extends south across the western Atlantic. The center of a 595
DM ridge will remain over the Rio Grande Valley. This pattern will
result in northwest low to mid level flow across the forecast area.
By late afternoon, the sfc cold front is expected to reach the
southern Appalachians. Broad downsloping flow will likely continue
to remain across the CWA through the daylight hours. In fact,
several model solutions generate little to no convection through the
Sunday period. I will indicate dry conditions during the morning,
then gradual increasing PoPs to low Chc by late in the afternoon. It
certainly appears that the greatest coverage of showers and
thunderstorms will occur during the evening hours. By the evening, a
broad pre-frontal sfc trough will develop ahead of the cold front.
The sfc moisture convergence along and ahead of the cold front
should yield scattered showers and thunderstorms. Coverage will
decrease from west to east late Sunday night as the cold front moves
across the forecast area. High temperatures are forecast to range
from the mid 90s across SE GA to the low 90s along the SC coast. Low
temperatures should range from near 70 inland to the mid 70s across
the coastal counties.

Monday and Tuesday: The center of broad high pressure will build
from the Great Plains to the across the Deep South. Sfc dewpoints
are expected to fall into the low 60s inland to upper 60s along the
coast on Monday, generally 1-2 degrees lower on Tuesday. Forecast
soundings indicate that CAPE will exist above a H7 inversion, but
will likely remain capped by 5-15 J/kg of CIN. PoPs on both days
will be limited to less than 15 percent. Temperatures are forecast
to range between 1-2 degrees warmer than normals.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A broad trough will ripple over the region Wednesday through the
rest of the work week. GFS indicates that a S/W will amplify over
the southern Appalachians on Saturday. At the sfc, weak return flow
should supply the region with gradual increases in moisture and
instability. I will forecast diurnal SCHC PoPs through the late work
week. However, chances are expected to increase on Saturday as a
weak warm front lifts across the forecast area. High temperatures on
Saturday will feature near 90s across SE GA.

.AVIATION /10Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
KCHS: Mainly VFR. Guidance keeps the highest coverage of
showers/tstms to the south this afternoon and evening, but do
show a band of isolated convection firing around the terminal
around 20z. Will carry a VCTS 20-00z to cover this. Impact
probabilities are too low to justify anything else at this time.

KSAV: Still expect a busy afternoon for showers/tstms across
Southeast Georgia. Latest data pushes the tstm impact window
back 1-2 hours so will push any mention of TSRA to 21-00z. Will
continue to carry prevailing MVFR conditions during this time,
but lower conditions could certainly occur at times. Expect
improving conditions after sunset, although some light
stratiform rain could linger into the mid-evening hours.

Extended Aviation Outlook: Mainly VFR conditions expected through
late next week. A brief period of fog or ground fog is possible
during the pre-dawn hours each morning, especially Tuesday and
Wednesday.

.MARINE...
Today and Tonight: South to southwest winds will persist through
the period. Winds will back during the afternoon near the coast
as a late day sea breeze remains near the coast. Speeds will
remain 10-15 kt with seas 2-4 ft. Showers/tstms will approach
the waters from the west and southwest this afternoon and
evening. These storms could pose a risk to mariners with winds
35 kt or greater, vsbys 1 NM or less in heavy rain and cloud-
to-water lightning. Periodic Special Marine Warnings may be
needed.

Sunday through Wednesday: Winds will remain from the SSW on
Sunday as a cold front approaches the region from the west.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop
across the marine zones, especially during Sunday evening. Wave
heights are forecast to range from 2-3 feet within 20 NM to 3-4
feet beyond 20 NM. The cold front is expected to sweep across
the region late Sunday night into Monday morning, resulting in
winds to shift from the NW on Monday. Broad high pressure will
slide across the region through Thursday, providing the region
with light winds and waves between 1-2 feet. On Friday, steady
east winds are forecast to develop across the marine zones,
speeds around 10 kts. Seas are expected to range around 1 foot
along the coast to around 2 feet at 10 Nm and beyond.

...ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING...

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for Atlantic coastal waters,
southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Severe Thunderstorms: Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms
will develop across central Georgia later today and move across
Southeast Georgia into southern South Carolina this afternoon and
evening. A few of these thunderstorms could become severe with large
hail and damaging winds. The risk for severe thunderstorms will be
the greatest between 3 PM and 9 PM. In addition to severe weather,
there will be a risk for locally heavy rainfall capable of producing
minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas and frequent
cloud to ground lightning. For mariners, thunderstorms could produce
winds in excess of 35 kt, hail, frequent cloud to water lightning
and visibilities of 1 NM or less in heavy rainfall.

Residents and visitors to Southeast South Carolina and Southeast
Georgia should continue to monitor the latest conditions and
forecasts throughout the day. This can be done through NOAA Weather
Radio All Hazards, tv or your local news source. Be prepared to take
action should threatening weather approach or if a warning is issued
for your area.
