.SYNOPSIS...
The area will remain between high pressure to the south and low
pressure to the north through the weekend, keeping warm and
humid conditions in place. A cold front will move through the
area early next week followed by drier high pressure into the
middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
KCLX shows a broken line of showers approaching the Charleston
Tri-County area from the southwest. This line of light to
locally moderate showers will move northeast across much of the
Charleston Metro Area through 9 am. Increased pops to 80-90%
right with the line itself through about the I-26 corridor then
showed a lowering to 70% as the line approaches the Santee
River. Deep convection did not develop as was expected earlier
this morning, possibly due to extensive dry air noted in GOES-
East low-level water vapor imagery. Once the rain moves through
the northern zones, expect fairly quiet conditions from mid/late
morning into the early afternoon as weak DAVA/subsidence
overspreads the area in the wake of departing mid-level
shortwave energy.

Still expect isolated-scattered convection to redevelop mid-
late afternoon as instability builds across Southeast Georgia
and another mid-level vorticity center approaches from the
southwest. There will be a risk for convective training this
morning posing a risk for at least minor flooding of mainly low-
lying and poor drainage areas.

Morning pops will range from 60-90% across the Charleston Tri-
County Area with 20-40% pops elsewhere. Afternoon pops will
average 30-40%, highest across interior Southeast Georgia. There
will be a bit more in the way of mid-level dry air across
Southeast Georgia this afternoon with modified sounding showing
DCAPE reaching as high as 1000 J/kg across much of that area.
This could support an isolated, mainly low-end risk for damaging
wind gusts.

Similar to Wednesday, high temperatures will be strongly
correlated to the location and timing of convection.
Temperatures are expected to be held down across the Charleston
Tri-County area where thicker clouds and showers/tstms will
linger the longest after sunrise so only expect these areas to
reach the mid 80s. Elsewhere, highs in the upper 80s look quite
reasonable with some locations possibly approaching 90 across
Southeast Georgia where there are signals that some fairly
substantial breaks in the cloud canopy could occur during peak
heating. Heat indices could approach 100 for much of Southeast
Georgia.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Tonight: The risk for convection will linger for a few hours
after sunset, mainly south of the I-16 corridor. Some CAM
members suggest an outflow boundary originating from possible
convection in the Vidalia to Reidsville area could move east and
intersect with the pinned sea breeze along the Georgia coast to
enhance convection for a few hours there. Will show 20-40% pops
for the evening hours, highest in the Ludowici-Savannah-
Springfield corridor. Could still see an isolated strong-severe
tstm given the elevated DCAPE noted on modified soundings.
Debris cloudiness will gradually thin through the night with
skies becoming partly cloudy after midnight. This could support
some stratus and patches of shallow ground fog, but meaningful
impacts should occur. Expect a mainly dry night as PWATS begin
to drop and mid-level heights rise. It will be a warm, humid
night with lows ranging from the lower 70s inland with mid 70s
at the coast.

Friday through Sunday: Friday will feature deep layer westerly
flow as zonally elongated high pressure stretches south of the
area. Overall, it should be a summer-like hot, humid day.
Convective initiation will be a challenge, as the seabreeze will
remain pinned near the coast, but favorable mid level lapse
rates and only weak capping may allow for isolated to scattered
thunderstorms to initiate on the sea breeze and outflow
boundaries. Given hail CAPE values approaching 1000 J/kg, and
DCAPE values approaching 1000 J/kg, any storms that do form may
briefly produce damaging wind gusts and hail, with the most
favorable environment currently looking to set up across inland
southeast Georgia.

Mid and upper level flow will shift more northwesterly over the
weekend as troughing develops over the eastern US and western North
Atlantic. The stronger downsloping component will result a drier
vertical profile, but continued warm conditions. Daytime convection
will largely be suppressed by capping in place and the continued
inability of the seabreeze to penetrate inland. However, shortwaves
passing overhead bring the potential for destabilization and
convection enhancement, especially if they cross the area during the
times of peak daytime heating. Sunday looks like the day of more
significant severe threat as a modest pre-frontal low level jet
approaching the area could couple with a passing shortwave to
deliver a window of significant instability and modest shear Sunday
afternoon/evening. However, the northwesterly flow will bring
notably dry mid and upper level air, so significant uncertainty
remains with regard to the extent of the threat at this point.

Convection will generally wane nightly, but POPs have not been
completely removed Saturday night to account for the possibility of
destabilization and convection associated with the passing
shortwaves. The timing of these waves will be further refined in
subsequent forecasts.

Deep later west to northwesterly flow will bring well above normal
temps through the period. Highs in the lower-to-mid 90s and dew
points in the lower 70s each afternoon will result in heat indices
near to just above 100 each day, through values approaching the June
heat advisory criteria of 105 cannot be ruled out primarily Friday
and Saturday.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Significant model changes have occurred in the past 24 hours as
large scale blocking and the occlusion of an upper low over the
Northeast early next week will keep the Southeast coast just
upstream of an upper level trough axis (persistent northwest winds
aloft) through the period. At the surface, a weak, mainly dry cold
front will cross the area sometime early in the weak, and low level
winds will shift north to northwesterly behind it, ushering in a
more mild, continental airmass. Overall settled conditions are
expected, though with the proximity of the upper level trough axis
just to our west, periods of increased lift are possible as
shortwave troughs occasionally pass nearby.

.AVIATION /09Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
KCHS: Band of light showers will impact the terminal right
around 12z. Brief vsbys/cig reductions can be expected, limited
to MVFR. Guidance has backed off on afternoon tstm chances at
the terminal, but will still need to keep a TEMPO group from
roughly 17-20z in tact.

KSAV: Could still see marginal MVFR cigs through sunrise.
Scattered showers/tstms are expected to develop near the
terminal this afternoon. Will probably just keep a mention of
VCTS for now since guidance still keeps bulk of the activity
outside of the 5 NM airport radius.

Extended Aviation Outlook: VFR conditions will prevail through the
weekend and into early next week.

.MARINE...
Today: South to southeast wind will veer to the southwest for
a period this morning as a low-level vorticity center moves
north across inland areas. Directions will then back to the
southeast along the Georgia coast this afternoon as the sea
breeze develops. Winds will remain 10-15 kt with seas 2-4 ft.
Locally heavy rainfall will be possible this morning reducing
vsbys to 1 NM or less at times.

Tonight: A more uniform southwest flow will dominate the
overnight period with speeds 10-15 kt. Seas will average 2-4 ft.

Friday through Tuesday: Gusty west to southwest winds are possible
through the weekend as low pressure makes its closest approach to
the area. Currently expect winds to remain below SCA criteria, but
gusts over 20 kt are possible at times. Light winds will fill in
behind a cold front that will cross the area early next week.
Seas will generally be 2 to 4 feet or less through the period.
