.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure across the area today will give way to a weak
cold front that moves through tonight. High pressure will then
prevail through the middle of the week. A cold front will stall
over or close to the region Thursday before lifting north as a
warm front by Friday. Another cold front will linger nearby next
weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Late this morning: No changes needed to a very quiet forecast.
Clear skies prevail and temperatures are quickly warming with
full sun. High clouds will likely start to push in from the west
late in the day, but will have no impact on the forecast.

Today: Surface high pressure across SE GA will migrate
southward ahead of an approaching cold front from the Lower Gulf
Coast to Tennessee Valley regions. A progressive mid level
short wave moving out of the South Central Plains early this
morning, is forecast to race eastward to the Mid Atlc region by
this evening. Our area can expect to see mainly clear skies with
a late day increase in some thin high clouds from the west.
Abundant sunshine and warmer low levels should result in milder
temps this afternoon with readings warming to the lower and mid
60s.

Tonight: The mid-level short wave passing to the north will
generally dampen and have very little opportunity to tap any
significant gulf moisture and it's attendant cold front is still
expected to be dry passage across our forecast area overnight.
In the evening, we could see a few sprinkles approaching our
inland zones as a pocket of shallow moisture shifts into the
CSRA and western SC Midlands. It looks doubtful any patchy light
showers will reach our inland zones and we maintained the dry
forecast. Periods of clouds in the weak warm air advection
regime during the evening will set the stage for a slightly
milder overnight. The surface cold front will sweep offshore
between midnight and sunrise with cooler air arriving late.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Monday: High pressure will cover the Southeast as zonal flow
prevails aloft. The absence of moisture and large scale
subsidence will keep conditions rainfree, while a deep westerly
flow and H8 temps that moderate to around 6-7C will support max
temps of 60-64F. The surface high settles over the region Monday
night, allowing for decoupling as winds go light or calm
inland. Under mainly clear skies and with low dew points, good
radiational cooling will occur, allowing for lows down into the
mid and upper 30s most places. The exceptions will be near and
along the coast where a light onshore flow will hold temps to
40-44F from Hunting Island to Sapelo.

Tuesday: Another quiet day, weather-wise, under the influence
of surface high pressure and zonal flow aloft. PWat less than
1/2 inch and the lack of forcing will generate yet another
rainfree day, although some return flow off the Atlantic will
produce few to scattered stratocumulus cloudiness. Building
heights and H8 temps reaching 7-8C will be offset somewhat by a
low level easterly flow, so max temps won't be much different
than on Monday.

Wednesday: The mid and upper pattern becomes more amplified, as
a deep trough is situated in the Rockies, while ridging covers
much of the eastern half of the country. The surface high over
the local area will become absorbed by an even stronger high
near the upper Great Lakes, allowing for the development of a
subtle trough offshore. While there is an increase in moisture
within the boundary layer and also above H5, the lack of forcing
suggests that we will get by with yet another day void of
rainfall. Despite more cloud cover, H5 heights of 5780-5800
meters and H8 temps of 7-9C will support max temps inland from
the coast reaching the mid and upper 60s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The second part of the upcoming week into next weekend looks to
be more unsettled, with higher rain chances, but also even
warmer conditions. The mean mid and upper pattern shows ridging
in the east and troughing in the west. A rather complex frontal
system will hold over or near the area, first in the form of a
cold front that stalls nearby Thursday, shifts north as a warm
front by Friday, and is then followed by another cold front that
drops in next weekend. A deep southwest flow from the Gulf of
Mexico, boosting PWat to around as great as it can get in
December, will yield at least scattered to likely PoP into next
weekend. There remains adequate instability for mention of
isolated t-storms, and also some concern for localized flooding.
Above normal H5 heights and H8 temps will equate to even warmer
weather through the period.

.AVIATION /15Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
VFR conditions will prevail at KCHS and KSAV through 03Z
Monday. There are some low probabilities of MVFR cigs overnight
at both terminals, but we opted for VFR conditions to prevail
for the late evening and overnight period.

Extended Aviation Outlook: VFR into Wednesday, with the
potential for flight restrictions due to showers in association
with a frontal system Thursday.

.MARINE...
The weekend should end on tranquil note across the waters as a
weak pressure pattern prevails. Light NW-W flow this morning
will back to SW this afternoon. Speeds should be less than 10 kt
and seas 1-2 ft on average. Tonight, SW flow ahead of a cold
front will increase into the 10-15 kt range but anything
stronger would be well offshore closer to the Gulf Stream where
mixing/warmer waters co-exist. Seas will range from 2-3 ft near
shore to 3-4 ft well offshore. A cold front will move through
the waters late with the flow veering northwest and a bit more
surging over cooler shelf waters (closer to 15 kt with gusts to
20 kt beyond the pilot buoys).

Monday through Tuesday: Continental high pressure centered in
Tennessee at the start of the period will shift to near the
Great Dismal Swamp by nightfall Tuesday. No marine headlines
will be necessary during this time.

Wednesday through Friday: A weak coastal trough nearby during
the middle of the week will transition into a warm front that
lifts north of the waters by Friday. During this time an inland
wedge of high pressure will be found, and there is a tight
packing of the pressure gradient between these features which
will lead to stronger winds and rising seas. Small Craft
Advisories will likely become necessary, along with some chance
for t-storms by late week.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Tides will already be elevated early in the week due to the
Perigean Spring tides, and with onshore winds developing and
strengthening during the mid and late week, there will be the
concern of minor coastal flooding. Coastal Flood Advisories
could be required.
