expected across Washington and Hancock Counties as well as the
Greater Bangor Region, with significant blowing and drifting snow
elsewhere. Do not become too focused on the exact snowfall

Canadian high pressure building toward the region overnight
will move east of the region Wednesday. Rapidly Deepening low
pressure off the southeast states will move north toward Nova
Scotia on Thursday and into the Canadian Maritimes Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
1245 A.M. Update...Minor adjustments to skycon and temps
otherwise previous forecast on track.

7 P.M. Update...Quick update this evening with no significant
updates to the forecast. Have lowered temps a little in addition
to cloud cover over Central Maine. Overall looks like a quiet
night except for the Small Craft Advisory across the coastal
waters. This could be the last night below zero for most areas,
well until Friday night at least.

Models indicate a weakening clipper like s/wv movg E into our
FA from Cntrl/Srn QB prov tonight. This feature will bring
cldnss and possible flurries to spcly Nrn ptns of the FA tngt
with cldnss decreasing and flurries dissipating late tngt as
whats left of the s/wv moves E of the Rgn. Subsequently, ovrngt
lows will once again be tricky with some potential of
radiational cooling given the xpctn of light winds spcly late
tngt.

Otherwise, skies will be partly to msly sunny skies on Wed with
sig recovery of hi temps spcly Cntrl and Downeast areas as a dry
warm front separating high residence from low residence arctic
crosses the entire area by mid aftn. After fair skies erly Wed
eve, clds will increase ovrngt Wed as the rapidly deepening low
off the SE states begins to move NNEwrd. Ovrngt lows will be
milder, spcly Cntrl and Downeast, with lows occurring at or just
prior to mdngt prior to onset of thicker and lower cld cvr.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Very strong low pressure Thursday/Thursday evening tracking
northeast through Gulf of Maine into Western Nova Scotia. Models
are coming into better agreement and have shifted west a bit.
This includes not only the operational models, but also the
latest SREF and GEFS mean. Adjusted snow totals higher and
further northwest according to model trend. Have also issued a
winter storm watch for all but Northern Somerset, and have
included potential blizzard wording along and southeast of I-95.
Most intense part of the storm is Thursday afternoon into
Thursday evening. Snow gradually tapering off through the night
Thursday. For Friday, just some snow showers and an additional
inch or so possible Friday day, but significant blowing and
drifting continuing.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Bitterly cold airmass yet again for Saturday. Wind chill
headlines almost definitely will be needed. Next potential
system Monday/Tuesday. Huge model discrepancies on track of the
system north vs south of us. General consensus suggests cold
enough for snow, but will have to keep an eye out for potential
mix if the north track of the system pans out. After the brief
warmup Monday/Tuesday, bitter cold returning Wednesday.

SHORT TERM: High end gale to potential storm force winds late
Thu/Thu evening as strong low pressure moves through the Gulf of
Maine. At this time, the prospect for any coastal flooding looks
to be very minimal if any, with the greatest impacts of winds
and waves late Thu ngt on a diminishing astronomical high tide
cycle. We will re-examine the potential of any coastal flooding
via forecast updates through Wed.
