.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will push towards the region tonight from the Ohio
Valley and bring increasing clouds and chances for showers across
Western New York. After a break in precipitation later Wednesday
morning through early afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will
again blossom, with a few of these storms potentially bringing gusty
winds through the early evening hours on Wednesday. A few showers
may linger east of Lake Ontario Thursday, otherwise the region will
return to dry conditions with a comfortable level of humidity
through the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As a surface low advances through the Great Lakes region it will
push a warm front towards our region tonight. Elevated instability
of several hundred J/KG, combined with a slight strengthening of a
nocturnal LLJ, will yield a few clusters of showers and isolated
thunder across WNY. The bulk of this precipitation will be after
midnight. By Wednesday morning this cluster of showers and any
remaining thunder will diminish over interior WNY with the
diminishing nocturnal LLJ. Lapse rates will remain unimpressive
through the night and any thunder through the morning hours should
just be the run of the mill type storms, though heavy downpours are
possible.

There will likely be a break in the precipitation from mid morning
through the early afternoon hours. During this time there may be
some partial clearing, especially over Lake Erie and metro Buffalo
where a lake breeze circulation will likely develop. This lake
breeze will bring windy conditions to the Lake Erie shoreline and
across metro Buffalo where gusts may near 40 mph.

Meanwhile the upstream shortwave over the Plains will be passing
through the Central Great Lakes tomorrow afternoon. An increasing
LLJ of 40 to 50 knots, lowering to 4-5K feet will be found ahead of
this potent shortwave. This shortwave will deepen a surface low
across now southern Canada tomorrow, with the low sending first a
pre-frontal trough and then a cold front across our region tomorrow
afternoon and early evening.

An initial wave of widely scattered thunderstorms will blossom
Wednesday afternoon within the prefrontal trough and along the
southern periphery of the Lake Erie lake breeze circulation. Surface
dewpoints climbing well into the 60s will send MUCAPE values to 1-2K
J/KG, while the LLJ aloft will produce 0-6 km bulk shear values of
50 knots. The overall synoptic support will be a bit weak at this
point, and thus while a few scattered stronger storms are possible
with this round, the main event will likely wait for the stronger
forcing with the potent PV max and cold front arriving later in the
afternoon and early evening.

The second wave of thunderstorms will develop across southern
Ontario Province forming a line from north of Lake Ontario, and back
to the west of Toronto. Very strong synoptic forcing and fast
steering flow on the nose of the upper-level PV max along the north
shore of Lake Ontario will focus the best threat for severe
thunderstorms across Canada, however, as this line will track into
the Saint Lawrence and eastern Lake Ontario region by early evening
brining the threat of strong to damaging straight line winds there.
Meanwhile, south of Lake Ontario, the storms will have a rough go of
crossing the robust Lake Erie lake breeze. Storms on the southern
end of the line, south of Toronto, will work their way across the
Niagara Peninsula, likely surviving into the Niagara Falls area
before dissipating as they interact with the lake shadow. However,
as the cold front emerges on the east side of and combines with the
Lake Erie lake breeze front across western NY, expect there to be
some redevelopment of storms south of Lake Ontario that will work
their way across the Genesee Valley and into the Finger Lakes.
However, expect the overall coverage south of Lake Ontario will
remain more scattered in mode owing to the disruption by the lake
shadow and the fact that the better synoptic forcing will track
through the Saint Lawrence Valley. Again, with respect to the severe
threat, this will be mostly a straightline damaging wind threat with
any bowing segments that develop along broken line of storms. The
threat will be highest across the North Country where the synoptic
forcing will result in the best storm organization, while south of
Lake Ontario, the threat will be much more scattered in nature.

Eventually as the cold front sweeps across the region from west to
east late tomorrow afternoon and evening storms will end from west
to east. PWAT values of 1.5 to 2.0 inches tonight and tomorrow will
allow for heavy downpours, though 50 knot mean steering flow should
will minimize any flooding threat. The one concern would be if any
thunderstorms begin to train, then with a moisture rich environment
heavier rainfall amounts and ponding water in low lying areas will
become a concern.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Robust convection associated with the cold frontal passage should be
close to clearing eastern sections of the area Wednesday evening.
Cooler and drier air will continue to filter into the region from
west to east Wednesday night, bringing a return to dry and quiet
weather. It will be a more comfortable night with overnight lows
falling back into the mid 50s to around 60 degrees along the lake
plains.

Surface high pressure and drier air will continue to slowly build
eastward from the western Great Lakes. Main shortwave will swing
through the region within lingering cyclonic flow. This combined
with diurnal destabilization and lingering moisture will generated
some scattered showers across the North Country and Saint Lawrence
Valley, while the rest of the region will be more under the
influence of the advancing ridge and provide a dry day along with a
mix of clouds and sunshine. Temperature will range from the lower to
mid 60s across the North Country to the lower to mid 70s south of
Lake Ontario.

High pressure will steadily build southeast and across our region
through the rest of this period, leading to dry and uneventful
weather for Thursday night through Friday night, along with
comfortable temperatures and humidity levels. High temperatures
Friday are expected to be in the mid to upper 70s, with lows both
Thursday night and Friday night primarily in the 50s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
An expansive upper level ridge will be across much of the Central
and Southern U.S. through Sunday. Northwest flow on the periphery of
the ridge will be present across the eastern Great Lakes during this
time. High pressure at the surface will lead to warm and mostly dry
conditions through the period. The only exception will be the
potential of Northern Plains convection to move around the ridge and
across the forecast area. Although guidance is not in agreement on
the time or intensity of these complexes, the potential does exist
through Sunday. Ran with slight chance of showers and thunderstorms
Saturday night through Sunday.

High pressure will move off the east coast Sunday and warm and humid
conditions will increase across the forecast area through Monday.
The expansive upper level ridge will be in place to the south of the
Great Lakes Sunday and Monday and will begin to move southward in
response to a robust mid-level trough dropping south across James
Bay and Quebec Province by Tuesday. This will lead to height falls
and increased chances for showers and thunderstorms.

Above normal temperatures continue through Monday with highs in the
mid to upper 80s. A cold front will likely move through the region
Tuesday bringing temperatures back to near normal.

.AVIATION /00Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Widespread VFR conditions will prevail through this evening across
the forecast area. However, flight conditions will deteriorate to
mainly MVFR late tonight through Wednesday morning as an area of
showers overspread the region. Localized IFR conditions are possible
with these showers across western NY, with the best chance at JHW
and across the higher terrain of the Southern Tier.

On Wednesday, after morning showers, expect dry period from mid
morning through early afternoon, with likely some improvement to
MVFR/VFR. However, winds will become gusty, especially northeast of
Lake Erie where gusts to 35 knots will be common by the afternoon
ahead of a cold front. Another round of scattered showers and
thunderstorms will then cross the region from west to east Wednesday
late afternoon and evening. Isolated to scattered damaging winds
gusts are possible with these storms.

Outlook...

Thursday to Sunday...mainly VFR.

South to southwest winds will increase across the lower Great Lakes
late tonight through Wednesday. A strong cold front will cross the
lakes late Wednesday with scattered showers and thunderstorms
capable of producing isolated to scattered damaging wind gusts. In
addition to the storms, the winds will overall increase ahead of and
behind the cold front passage resulting a period of moderate to high
end small craft conditions on the lakes from late Wednesday through
Thursday.

Once winds subside later Thursday, high pressure will keep
conditions below SCA through the weekend.
