.SYNOPSIS...
A departing area of high pressure will maintain pleasant conditions
through the evening hours across the Eastern Great Lakes region.
Showers and a few thunderstorms will reach Western New York late
tonight, with this activity pushing eastward across the region
tomorrow morning and afternoon. A cold front will then push across
the region Thursday evening with cooler and drier air following for
tomorrow night and Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A deck of cumulus clouds has formed over the region this afternoon,
with areas northeast of the lakes sunny as local lake breeze
circulations take effect. Temperatures are warm, with several areas
in the lower elevations reaching the lower 80s.

It will remain mild and comfortable through the evening hours as
departing high pressure over the Canadian maritimes continues the
fair weather regime. However a surface low over the Western Great
Lakes will advance eastward tonight, bringing showers and even a few
rumbles of thunder to the region after midnight.

There will likely be two main rounds of showers and thunderstorms.
The first round, ahead of the surface low and within a 40 knot LLJ
field will likely contain showers and just a few rumbles of
thunder...with activity passing across Western New York in the
morning, and diminishing midday as the LLJ weakens.

The second round will form within a pre-frontal trough...roughly
from the Genesee Valley eastward. MUCAPE values of 500 to 1000 J/Kg
and a still moderately strong wind field aloft may allow for some of
these storms to become strong to severe...for which SPC has most of
our region within a Marginal Risk for Severe Storms. Any strong to
severe thunderstorms will primarily feature damaging wind gust
threats, though confidence to place enhanced wording in the grids is
not great yet, owing to the deamplification of the passing
shortwave, and expected lingering cloud cover from the initial wave
of showers and thunderstorms. So for now will just maintain general
wording for showers and thunderstorms. A cold front will near the
region late in the forecast period...with clearing conditions
reaching the Niagara Frontier.

It will remain mild tonight ahead of the storm system, with lows in
the upper 50s to lower 60s. The early arrival of precipitation and
clouds tomorrow will limit warming, with highs ranging from the
upper 60s, to mid 70s...with warmest spots likely the Finger Lakes
region.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Most if not all of a convective line associated with pre-frontal
trough and/or cold front should be east of Eastern Lake Ontario by
Thursday evening.  There may be a secondary frontal boundary that
brings some clouds, sprinkles, or even a few brief showers southward
across the Eastern Lake Ontario and/or Finger Lakes regions later
Thursday night, but measurable rain currently looks rather remote.
One thing that will be noticeable is the ~20F drop in 24hr low
temperatures, with most areas bottoming out near 40F toward Friday
morning.

Friday should be dry and relatively cool with highs in the 50s as a
surface high moves east across Ontario and Quebec with large scale
subsidence extending south across NYS.  There is a low threat for
showers associated with a strengthening warm front that will be
developing over the OH valley, but this feature will probably not
make it to WNY until later Friday night.

Friday night a strong warm front will move into the region with
ample buoyancy aloft.  This should result in a round of showers and
elevated thunderstorms moving eastward along the boundary and across
most of WNY sometime Friday night, perhaps just skirting the St
Lawrence Valley.  The boundary should make it partly through the
region before being shunted south again, although details are
probably somewhat questionable due to gridscale convective
precipitation having some effect on various model boundary
positions.

Saturday, there may be a break in showers with post precipitation
subsidence while the boundary lingers south across the state line.
Meanwhile, another round of precipitation will be fast approaching
and either passing overhead or south toward/over the state line.
Will keep a chance of showers in the forecast, with a higher threat
toward the south, along with some convective potential over the
Southern Tier closer to the expected frontal boundary.

Saturday night the boundary will still be somewhere near/south of
NYS with the threat for showers and some thunderstorms.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Compared to what was seen at this time yesterday...the available
model guidance has trended further south with the positioning of the
elongated frontal boundary/baroclinic zone into Sunday, with return
to drier and better overall conditions as high pressure/drier air
builds southeastward from the Upper Great Lakes. With this in
mind...have continued to trend PoPs a bit further downward into the
low chance range for Sunday...with it possible that the entire day
might actually wind up dry should the faster GFS and ECMWF solutions
verify. As for temperatures, readings in the mid to upper 60s are
expected in the wake of the front on Sunday.

After that...the aforementioned surface high is then expected to
build further southeastward to the Mid-Atlantic coastline Monday
and Tuesday...while providing our region with fair dry weather and
a steady day-to-day warming trend.

.AVIATION /19Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
For the 18Z TAFS VFR flight conditions are found and these
conditions will continue for the next 12 to 18 hours. An upper level
trough will pass across the region late tonight and tomorrow
bringing an area of showers and embedded thunderstorms. Greatest
chances for thunder will be late in the TAF cycle, across the
Genesee Valley, Finger Lakes region and North Country. A VCTS will
be placed in the KROC and KART TAF. Showers and thunderstorms will
end by mid afternoon to the west, and late afternoon/early evening
to the east.

Outlook...

Thursday night...VFR...some patchy fog/IFR possible following
precipitation at KJHW/KART.

Friday...Mainly VFR.

Friday night and Saturday...Showers likely and a chance of thunder;
IFR/MVFR flight conditions.
Saturday night and Sunday...VFR/MVFR with a chance of showers.
Monday...VFR.

.MARINE...
South to southwest winds will increase late tonight and tomorrow
ahead of a cold front, with winds and waves pushing across
Small Craft advisory thresholds on the lakes. These winds will
veer to northwesterly tomorrow night behind a cold front, with
SCA remain the longest on the SE shoreline of Lake Ontario. High
pressure Friday will bring another period of light winds and
minimal waves.
