.SYNOPSIS...
A mid level disturbance will push a cold front across our region
today, generating some showers. Colder air will move back into the
region with temperatures averaging 10 to 15 degrees lower than
normal for the weekend, but the good news is that a significant
warming trend is slated for next week when the mercury will climb
into the 70s.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
KTYX radar showing area of showers associated with lead shortwave
pushing through north central New York. Water vapor imagery
depicting trailing, more robust shortwave right on its heels over
southeast Lower Michigan/Northwest Ohio which will push across the
area today, bringing an additional shot of rain showers. Decent mid
level forcing with good area of PVA and 50-60 knot speed max will
bring a good coverage of showers, especially to southern
portions of the area as it also pushes a cold front through in
the process. Generally looking at a tenth to a quarter inch of
rainfall with this system.

Cold air advection behind the front on an increasing westerly
flow will encourage a non-diurnal temperature trend over the
western counties, as temperatures fall off during the
afternoon. Temperatures west of Rochester will top out in the
upper 40s to near 50 by midday, then slowly fall through the
40s and into the 30s toward nightfall.

The system exits to the east of the area by mid to late
afternoon. Somewhat drier air will help to taper the showers
from west to east. Wrap around moisture works back into the area
later tonight and generate additional showers, especially in
favored upslope areas southeast of Lake Erie. Persistent cold
air advection will allow for a mix of rain and snow showers,
with a likely transition to all snow by Sunday morning over
higher elevations. Any accumulations should be limited to a
coating to maybe an inch over the highest elevations.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
An upper level trough will remain overhead and unsettled weather
with below normal temperatures will close out the weekend.

Low pressure will be located over northern New England Sunday and
wrap-around moisture and enhanced lift from a closed upper level low
will lead to rain and snow showers Sunday. Temperatures will be near
freezing Sunday morning and rain or snow showers will should be
ongoing especially across higher elevations. A light coating of snow
to a few tenths of an inch on grassy surfaces is possible with a
higher chance across higher elevations where it will be colder.
Temperatures will slowly climb into the low to mid 40s Sunday
afternoon. Northwest winds with gusts up to 30 mph are expected
Sunday afternoon. Drier air will work its way into Western NY by
Sunday afternoon and slow clearing from west to east is expected.

The closed low will catch up with the sfc low Sunday night and this
stacked system will spin over northern New England. A constant feed
of moisture will continue to wrap around the sfc low and result in
mainly rain showers across the North Country into Monday. Some snow
may mix in especially across the Tug Hill Plateau. Dry air will
continue to advect eastward Monday and mostly sunny conditions are
expected across Western NY. The sunshine will help raise temperatures
close to normal Monday, U50s/L60s however the North Country will
likely stay in the L50s. An upper level ridge will start to build
into the eastern Great Lakes, pushing the upper level low into the
Canadian Maritimes Monday night into Tuesday. Although usually
associated to quiet weather, models are depicting a fast moving
shortwave trough rounding the peak of the ridge Monday night. Rain
showers are possible Tuesday as this feature flys by. Southeast
winds with 850mb temperatures around +12 will allow temperatures to
spike into the 70s and this will begin the above normal stretch of
days.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Warm temperatures will continue through Thursday with a cool down
for Friday to normal or just below normal temperatures for the area.

Showers with some thunderstorms will be possible on Wednesday as the
area will be in the warm sector of a large synoptic system over
Central and Eastern Ontario. A frontal boundary with this system will
stall to the north allowing for additional moisture to move through
the area on Thursday when we have better chances for rain. For
Thursday into Thursday night the next system will trek along the
stalled boundary to our north, and both the boundary and system will
be pushed through by a broad upper level trough and weak area of low
pressure moving through Eastern Ontario. Along with this upper level
trough and surface low, a cold front will move through the area.
With this cold frontal passage we will see an end to the well above
normal temperatures experienced in the middle of the week.
Discrepancy for timing of the front still exist between the GFS and
ECMWF, with the ECMWF pushing the front through Friday afternoon,
about 12 hours later than the GFS. Friday will feature showery
conditions with the influence of the upper level trough still over
the area.

.AVIATION /08Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Rain showers will track through the Eastern Lake Ontario region
early this morning. Cigs associated with the shower activity
will reach MVFR levels, with IFR cigs possible across the
higher terrain of the Southern Tier (incl. KJHW and KELZ).
Higher elevations may also see a period of fog through 10z.

After daybreak, MVFR cigs should be in place for the bulk of
the day. The exception will be east of Lake Ontario where cigs
are forecast to improve to VFR. These cigs will be accompanied
by some rain showers, over the western counties in the morning
and east of the Genesee Valley during the midday and early
afternoon.

Outlook...
Tonight and Sunday...VFR/MVFR with a chance of rain and snow
showers.
Monday and Tuesday...VFR. Wednesday...VFR with a chance of
afternoon showers.

.MARINE...
A weak surface pressure gradient over the Lower Great Lakes will
keep generally light winds and negligible waves this morning.

In the wake of a cold front, winds will freshen on both lakes. This
will lead to small craft advisory conditions on Lake Ontario by mid
to late afternoon. Choppy conditions will develop on Lake Erie.

Moderate to fresh northwesterlies are then forecast to remain
in place through the rest of the weekend and into Monday. This
will maintain small craft conditions on Lake Ontario with
choppy conditions remaining on Lake Erie as well.
