.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moving along the southern New England coast will
continue to produce a mix of rain and wet snow through early this
evening. A cold front will then cross the eastern Great Lakes early
Monday morning with a few snow showers. Some limited lake effect
will develop southeast of the lakes later Monday and Monday night
with spotty minor accumulations. Temperatures will be seasonable
through Tuesday before a significant warming trend arrives later in
the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Radar imagery showing the most persistent precip from Southern Erie
and Wyoming counties eastward across the Genesee Valley to points
southeast of Lake Ontario as of early afternoon. Surface obs show
most of this is falling as rain, although a few wet snowflakes may
be mixing in at times. Scattered sprinkles and light showers also
extend into portions of the Niagara Frontier and western Southern
Tier.

A mid level closed low will continue to move off the Mid Atlantic
coast this afternoon and evening before moving to east of Cape Cod
by Monday morning, with a surface low taking a similar track. Our
region will remain on the northwest periphery of this system, with
mainly light precipitation tapering off from west to east later this
afternoon and evening. Temperatures aloft will continue to cool in
the northwest quadrant of the mid level low, and this will allow the
rain to mix with, or change to wet snow this afternoon from the
interior Southern Tier through the Finger Lakes to the southern Tug
Hill region. Any snow accumulation will be slushy and minor, with
less than an inch in a few spots. Precipitation will end by early
evening from the Genesee Valley eastward, and by mid evening east of
Lake Ontario.

Once the precipitation with the east coast low exits, the remainder
of tonight will be dry. There may be a few breaks in the clouds
briefly, but low level moisture will increase again late tonight
with low clouds moving back into the area. Lows will be in the lower
30s on the lake plains with upper 20s across higher terrain.

A sharp mid level trough will dig into Quebec and northern New
England Monday, with an attendant cold front crossing the eastern
Great Lakes early in the morning. The cold front will produce a few
scattered snow showers of little consequence. The airmass will grow
cold enough by late morning or midday for some lake response. Lake
induced equilibrium levels will rise to around 8K feet Monday
afternoon and evening, before steadily dropping later Monday night.
Deeper moisture and better synoptic scale support will be found over
Lake Ontario, with less favorable conditions off Lake Erie.

Off Lake Ontario...

Northwest flow will become established by late Monday morning behind
the cold front, supporting relatively weak multiple band structure
along much of the south shore from the Niagara Frontier eastward
across Rochester to Oswego County, and down through the Finger
Lakes. The flow direction, and mesoscale model guidance such as the
3KM NAM, ARW, and NMM support the Georgian Bay connection setting up
to the southwest of Rochester late Monday and Monday night. The
exact placement of these upstream connections is difficult to
forecast, but it may produce slightly higher snow amounts from
Niagara/Orleans/Genesee counties into the western Finger Lakes. The
lake response will peak Monday afternoon and evening before slowly
tapering off later Monday night as inversion heights lower. Expect a
dusting to an inch or two in most areas, with a few spotty amounts
of up to 3 inches across Wayne, N.Cayuga, Oswego counties and
possibly near the Georgian Bay band to the southwest of Rochester if
it materializes.

Off Lake Erie...

More shallow synoptic scale moisture and short northwest fetch will
limit lake effect potential. Most of the snow will focus across the
higher terrain from the Chautauqua Ridge into the Hills of southern
Erie and western Wyoming counties with an added boost from upslope
flow. The wind direction looks to place the better Lake Huron
connection over northwest PA if it materializes. Expect the upslope
snow to develop Monday morning and continue through Monday evening
before slowly tapering off later Monday night. Accumulations will be
limited to a dusting to an inch or two across the higher terrain.

Temperatures will be seasonable Monday, with highs in the mid 30s on
the lake plains and around 30 across higher terrain. Lows Monday
night will be low to mid 20s in most areas, with teens east of Lake
Ontario where some clearing may develop overnight.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Snow showers will be rapidly diminishing on weakening northwesterly
flow early in the day on Tuesday. Ridging will summarily build in
fairly quickly, dropping inversion heights and decimating the moist
layer below it. High pressure will continue to build in through
midweek, which will result in rapidly moderating then warming
conditions Wednesday into Thursday.

As high pressure starts to emerge to the east by the second half of
the work week, warm advection will kick into high gear with
isentropic ascent ahead of a very deep and increasingly negatively-
tilted system that arrives by Thursday night. With warm air in
place, widespread rain will result as even low temperatures stay
well above freezing by that juncture.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Lingering wraparound moisture and cyclonic flow on the backside of
the system for the end of the work week should keep at least a
chance of rain and snow showers around on Saturday...with upsloping
possibly helping to enhance these a bit east of the lakes. With
regard to temperatures...these should remain mild through Friday
with highs in the mid 40s to around 50...before these settle back
into the mid to upper 30s for Saturday.

.AVIATION /19Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Low pressure moving northeast just off the eastern seaboard will
continue to produce a mix of rain and wet snow this afternoon. Most
of the precipitation will be light, with areas of rain seeing VFR
VSBY while areas that change to wet snow may briefly drop to MVFR or
IFR. CIGS will be mainly VFR with some patchy MVFR across higher
terrain. The precipitation will end from west to east later this
afternoon and evening.

A cold front will cross the area early Monday morning. The cold
front may produce a few scattered light snow showers. Lake effect
snow showers will develop southeast of the lakes later Monday
morning through the afternoon with areas of MVFR CIGS and IFR VSBY.

Outlook...

Monday night...VFR/MVFR with a chance of snow showers. Lake effect
snow showers likely southeast of the lakes with local IFR.
Tuesday...MVFR CIGS possible early, otherwise VFR.
Wednesday...Mainly VFR.
Thursday...Mainly VFR with a chance of rain showers late.
Friday...MVFR/IFR with rain likely.

.MARINE...
Northeast winds will continue to produce choppy conditions along the
south shores of Lakes Ontario and Erie today before diminishing this
evening. Conditions will remain below Small Craft Advisory levels
through this evening. A cold front will cross the eastern Great
Lakes early Monday morning. Westerly winds will increase just ahead
of the front, then become northwest and increase further Monday
afternoon and night. This will produce high end Small Craft Advisory
conditions on both lakes.
